Fun fact: the day before and after the MLB All Star Game are the only 2 days of the year in which no games are ever scheduled to be played of the 4 major sports in America (MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL).
The Marlins apparently have informed their first round pick (9th overall) Andrew Heaney that they will not sign him, as they will have not offered him anything near the slot bonus of 2.8 million.
Decent deal for both sides. He maybe would've gotten a little more on the open market but not too much. When it came to EE, the comparison contract I set was Josh Willingham's 3yr, $21 million deal. Willingham had a better track record but he was also older by a couple of years.
I don't expect Edwin to reproduce this season but if he can keep a .800-.850 OPS with a mid .300 OBP for those years, I'll take that. At least the Jays don't have to worry about finding a 1B anymore as well.
Beras ruling is that the contract with the Rangers is okay, but he will be suspended a year for lying to MLB about age.
irondarts, I agree its a bad move by the fish not to sign Heaney. Why draft someone that you weren't sure you can sign? The guy was the safe pick in the draft and they couldn't even secure him. Apparently they offered 2.6 million while Heaney wanted 2.8. Marlins weren't really ripping him off with that offer, but its very strange how things turned out.
They get 2 first rounders now in next years draft right? With one guaranteed the 10th pick? Maybe they can get better luck in a deeper draft.

The strangest thing about this is that the Marlins only have Heaney and their 3rd rounder unsigned and they could sign both to straight slot bonuses without going over their spending pool. Or they could offer Heaney up to 3.1 million without losing anything either.
And yes, they would have 2 picks next year, comp pick being 10th overall I believe.
Yankees signed their first round pick Ty Hensley for 1.2 million dollars.
The Rays are close to signing their First rounder Richie Shaffer.
The Orioles are close to signing 4th overall pick Kevin Gausman.
That leaves only Mark Appel and Lucas Giolito as the only first rounders that aren't signed and likely won't be. Looks like Appel probably won't sign, which I'm honestly fine with.
