This is a good haul for the Astros, getting prospects like Musgrove, Wojciechowski and Perez is a great haul for the 3 guys they have up.
Meh. I don't know what to think about this. I'd hope that the Jays could've gotten better value for those prospects but they were all blocked in the Jays system. Perez (who I liked) is behind D'Arnaud, JPA and Jimenez. Musgrove is behind all the other recently drafted low-minors arms (Sanchez, Nicolino, Syndergaard, Norris, Comer, etc). Wojo has always been pegged as a reliever in the majors. But you'd hope the Jays could get something better than Happ who, IMO, is a #4 pitcher in the AL East at his absolute best. Maybe the Jays see something in Carpenter as a good reliever going forward.
While I didn't agree that the Reds Chapman being named closer was a good thing, he's really excelled in that role since he got two or three blown saves in a row...
How about them Oakland A's? .5 back in the Wild Card and while many don't think they can sustain it, how crazy would it be to see 3 team from the AL West make the playoffs? Nobody would have even given that a chance before the season. Given their home pitching being among the best in the league and their knack for timely hitting maybe it wouldn't be so crazy to see them stay within striking distance at least going the rest of the way. I personally don't see it happening, but its starting to make for a good story.
The al west is at least the second best division in baseball and looking forward there is a pretty good chance it stays that high for a while. The Astros coming over does hurt though for next year.
The al west has the best division wide run differential of any division in baseball.

Their bats have been insane the past few weeks. I was glad they got Parker the win his game against the Twins, gave me that category in fantasy baseball last week.
Not one mention of the Braves coming back from down 9-0 to win 11-10? I wasn't home last night so I couldn't watch and I admittedly gave-up on the game after I saw we were down 9-0 after the 5th. Got back home to see how bad it ended up being and couldn't believe we won. And Chipper now has the most career RBI ever by a third baseman. Despite all that, the most shocking thing about last night may be that Craig Kimbrel blew a save and proved he's not a robot.
Oh, and Ben Sheets had another good start this afternoon, pitching 6 shutout innings. In both starts so far he's gone 6 without allowing a run.
I know nothing about those players the Astros got but at this point, why not? They should be selling any desired veteran MLB talent for prospects. I honestly like the direction that team is taking with its more analytical approach from the new management. It will take some time but they're on the right track.
