I put lost in quotes because I've seen Felix crank it up to 96 this year, even some 97's...he's still got it in the tank.

Consistency? You want to talk about consistency? Felix in the last 4 years:

Basically is tied for the lead in ERA at 2.70 (Kershaw is 2.69)
1st in innings pitched
3rd in strikeouts

Last year his ERA was 3.47.

Also, when he first came up, fastball velocity was 96.3, now it's 92.3. He's consistently been around 94.4-94.5, so a drop to 92.3 is significant for a guy who is just 26. And when in a few years, he's down to 90.5/90MPH, it will be a big deal. I am done with this argument; velocity matters; especially for a power pitcher...

ChiSox crushing the long ball today.

Five homers and Wise continues his impressive play after rejoining the team. And a series win in TO for the first time in years.

Who gives a **** if his ERA was 3.47 last year? You brought up consistent play, which doesn't mean what happened last year and 2/3 of this year. Being consistent is what you do over a long period of time.

Like I said, in the last four years he's the leader in innings pitched, 3rd in strikeouts and basically tied for first for ERA.

He belongs in that group as much as anyone else. You leaving him out is just brutal.

Well, the Braves gained ground on the Nationals tonight. It helps that the Nationals didn't play, obviously. At least we've got some breathing room in the wildcard race, for now. With the Pirates slipping, it might be the Cardinals (again) or Giants we have to try and hold off in September.

Getting ready to start a huge 10 game stretch: vs LAD (3x), @ WAS (3x), and @ SFG (4x). We could be almost completely out of the division race in two weeks, and in a fight four our playoff lives in the wildcard race.

With Melky getting busted Vicor Conte has been all over the news doing interviews about how he views PED use in baseball these days:

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseb...era/57076430/1

*edit* http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/l...-doping-081612

That article actually goes more in depth with what he said.

Quote:
"I would say," Conte said, speaking slowly, "maybe as much as half of baseball."
Wait, you're saying that 50% of baseball players might still be cheating today, when the steroid era is supposed to be over?
"I'm not going to name names," Conte said, "but I've talked to a lot of top players in Major League Baseball, and they tell me this is what they're doing. There is rampant use of synthetic testosterone in Major League Baseball.

Quote:
"What these guys are doing is using fast-acting testosterone, creams, gels, patches and micro-dose injections," Conte says. "They put this stuff on after a game, let it circulate in their blood stream, and eight hours later, it's out of their system when they take a drug test. It's so simple.

He does make a suggestion for baseball, which is to use the carbon isotope ratio test as the first test instead of making it the last resort test. Still though, accusing 50% of baseball of using synthetic testosterone does seem like a ridiculously high number.

On another note MLB said next week they're going to test expanded replay in NY ball parks (similar to the technology used in tennis) to gauge the possibility of having it for 2013.

I have a hard time believing that top MLB players went to Conte and told him they were using PED'S, that's just me, though.

The Red Sox have released Mark Prior. I wonder if this is the end for Prior. In 25 innings for Triple A he struck out 38 batters but also walked 23.

Ryan Dempster is skipping his start in Toronto this weekend. Dempster, a Canadian, doesn't have a passport and won't be allowed in the country.

No they aren't, timing a catch at the wall, climbing it and pulling it back is WAY harder; and that wall is ridiculously high...
