giancarlo should be glad he got the chance to meet the GOAT announcer
GOAT announcer calling future GOAT player. Only reason for this epic reunion So much Beastness in a 22 year old player and he's the NL HR race despite missing 5 weeks this season
During his rookie season it seemed like the media were in love with Jason Heyward. He has an injury riddled bad sophomore campaign and he seemingly falls off their radar.
He's not having an MVP type season or anything but he's been very good, especially since June. He's really only had one bad stretch, and that was in May. The only hole in his 2012 season is that he's striking out too often. Still, he's got a .278/.352/.503 slash line, an .855 OPS, 23 HR, 68 RBI, 18 SB, and 75 R. He's also got a 5.8 WAR, 6th in baseball.

Really only ESPN has wrote about him and that was right at the beginning of the year about how he should have a comeback year. And then just two days ago. He's been impressive.

Yeah, I hadn't noticed him getting much pub this year, which is fine with the seasons some other players are having. I mean Heyward's not in the MVP race or anything, but for having just turned 23, he's bounced back from his sophomore slump very nicely. And, who knows, if he continues playing like this, and the Braves stay in the wildcard and division hunt, he could sneak into the top 3-5 of the MVP discussion. Don't know if he can catch McCutcheon, and he's still got some work to do to catch guys like Posey, Votto, and Holliday, but it's not out of the question.
This was being discussed on a Braves message board but, despite having the 5th best WAR in baseball, it's not as noticeable to MVP votes because his WAR is pretty defensive heavy. Not that he's a bad offensive player (.371 wOBA and 23.0 wRAA) but his defense is carrying a lot of weight in some of his overall advanced stats. I'm not an advanced stats junkie or expert, so I was a little lost on some of what they were talking about.
Hearing the espn guys talk about Beltres hall of fame chances shows just how little they understand baseball
Keith Law recently mentioned how Beltre will be the "next Tim Raines" when it comes to HOF voting. A guy who based on his career (assuming he keeps it up for a few more years) should get in but could have trouble due to old-fashioned thinking.
Same thing is happening to Alan Trammell. I bet if he rightfully won the AL MVP that one year George Bell got it, it would totally change the optics when it comes to his HOF candidacy. Funny how it works.

I truly think if he hadn't gone to Seattle he'd be in the argument for greatest 3b of all time. That park hurt his career as much as coors hurt any pitchers
A's 47 and 28 since June 2nd; on that date they were in last place in the west and now they are atop the WC standings. Losing Colon will hurt but getting back Anderson and McCarthy off of the DL mitigates the blow of young pitching staff losing a vet/leader in the rotation. While their offensive #'s are horrendous they might be a bit misleading due to them being marginally improved over their recent hot stretch. Definitely a team worth watching if they can get into the post season; however their Sept schedule is challenging with series vs. LAA, vs. Sea, 4 x @ LAA, vs. Bal, @ Det, @ NYY, 4 x@ Tex, vs. Sea, and vs. Tex.

Well, he does have the potential to push 3,000 hits and will more than likely finish with more than 400 homers and 1,600 RBI. I don't know if he can get 3,000 but if he has 3 or 4 good seasons left in him anything is possible.
