I wouldn't take out Ibanez. He deserved the chance. That said for the Yankees to basically give up on A-Rod before game 3 is retarded. He's slumping hard but he's (even this year) capable of getting hot. He's not going to suck for the rest of his career. Why not hamper yourself even more?
You might want to look at his #'s vs lefties the past 3 years. UGLY. The Tigers thank Girardi for keeping him in.
Unless ARod's hip is a big issue that isn't being reported, I'll take a slumping ARod in that spot every day.
A-Rod has been complete utter shit, plus Ibanez has come through several times. You want a guy hitting .130 the entire postseason and is more concerned about getting womens' numbers in the stands, over a guy who's hitting .350 and has 5 RBIs in 7 games?

You have to win at any cost. Ibanez has 3 HR this postseason while A-Rod has just 3 hits. I don't care if A-Rod CAN get hot. Bottom line, he's not and this isn't a 2-3 game thing.

Ahhh the Pete Kozma argument. Yes, I would. Unless ARod is physically hampered by his hip (which is a strong possibility). I would much rather have him vs Coke (or whatever righty the Tigers bring out) than leaving Ibanez in when he is worthless against lefties.

At least go to Swisher.
.130 seems to indicate to me that it doesn't matter who is pitching against A-Rod. There's at least a chance with Ibanez. I don't care if it's A-Rod, I don't care if he can get hot. He's had more than enough time and he's not getting the job done. You do what you have to do to win. If keeping A-Rod on the bench is what needs to be done, then so be it. It's evident he's not breaking out of his slump any time soon.

Ibanez didn't replace A-Rod. A variety of crappy players did, including his third base replacement who made an error. A-Rod is garbage but so is half the yankee lineup at this point. The Yankees reacted to teh media pressure because that's the only explanation to reacting to ARod so much and not the other equally crappy players.
If we strip away the bullshit, essentially the Yankees suspended A-Rod in a playoff series for a game for not concentrating on a game after being removed from the game. That's retarded. And i'm not a Yankee fan and i HATE A-Rod.
Verlander being 32 won't stop him from bringing in heaps on money I don't think.
He's going to eventually lose some MPH on his fastball, but he could lose 5 MPH's and still be throwing 92 consistently and reach back for 95 when he needs a little extra something.

I think so as well, in baseball you get paid on what you've done, even if you're past 30. And generally even if you're a pitcher. (Cliff Lee)
It's tough to face Verlander. There's no sure thing against him. So if Girardi had started ARod and Swisher it still (most likely) would have been a shutdown. And then we would have been talking about oh why'd he leave them out there Ibanez is doing well.
Baseball, more than any other sport I Think, is about numbers. And it's easy to forget that success in the sport is about people. Maybe ARod has something going on that Girardi sees, maybe Girardi can't read his players idk. But there is something going on in that clubhouse that transcends on field production.
