It's really no coincidence that Longoria's contract with TB basically ends the same time A-Rod will probably be done. I will want to be killing somebody the day Longoria signs with the Yankees.
I wouldn't worry about it. The Rays seem to be good at locking up their players through their entire prime. How old is Longoria going to be when he's a free agent? 28 or 29? I wouldn't want to give him a huge 7 year deal at that point even if I had the money. The Rays are getting the best years out of their major players and letting them go afterwards. Draft well, sign them through their late 20's, let them walk and restart the cycle. Big emphasis on the "draft well" part now that the Rays won't be getting top 5 picks.
Rays with another win. 19-8 on the season. 13-1 at home. Have won 12 of their last 13. On a roll!
Did anyone see all of the terribly missed calls in the Nats/Phillies game? All b/c one of the crew members was sick so they didn't have an ump on 3rd base. That's retarded. There's no back-up guy with each crew? There were so many missed calls.
I hate the fact that Gio is on a division rival now. He was probably my favorite player in Oakland and now he's having a tremendous year so far in Washington. Everyone figured a move to the NL would benefit him, but not to the point of a 1.72 ERA, 41 K, and .90 WHIP in his first six starts. Obviously those numbers are going to go up as the season goes on, but that pitching in Washington is doing way better than most expected I think.
