The Knicks will have to determine if Lin is a starter or whether they should seek an upgrade and make Lin the backup. Baron Davis and Mike Bibby are both free agents this summer and there is a strong chance neither will return.
Steve Nash is also slated to become a free agent and his future with the Phoenix Suns is uncertain. A person close to Nash, the two-time MVP, says he will not rule out the Knicks even though his former coach in Phoenix, Mike D’Antoni, was replaced by Woodson three weeks ago.
The Knicks don’t have cap space to sign Nash and they would have to get creative in order to acquire him. A point guard tandem of Nash and Lin would work for everybody. The Knicks would be elevated to contending status while still making loads of money. They may not even have to remind season- ticket holders of a playoff deadline anymore.
dont see then letting lin walk.. and we wont have any money to bring in any decent free agents next year...so i dont know what to expect from this team again

We'll be a lot better next year. We won't have D'Antoni coaching to us to an under .500 record for the first 65% of the season. We'll have a legitimate shot at a top 3 seed, like we should have had this year. Lin/Shumpert/Melo/Amar'e/Tyson is a very solid starting 5. Our depth on the bench will obviously not be as good, but you don't compete for titles because of your 10th man.
Lin's injury may be a blessing in disguise. #1 It may help in negotiations. He seems like a humble kid. But he's also smart and his agent might not be as humble. He's not bad but I wouldn't give him a whole bunch of money. #2 It may make us go out and get a proven pg and move Lin to back up. Having a quality PG and then being able to back him up with Lin would be amazing. In free agency, I think our #1 goal needs to be finding someone to take Toney Douglas off of our hands.
Knicks will re-sign Lin. It makes too much sense financially.
Let's just hope Douglas will get his confidence back and start playing like an NBA player again because I don't think we'll sign anybody (read Mike James) to fill in while Lin is gone.
No, they will just resign Lin. MDA is gone so Nash won't be forcefed to us. They are not going to dump Lin to sign a Felton type who wasn't much better.

Does he have a player or team option? It might not make sense financially if someone else is willing to throw money at him. My 1st guess would be NJ. They blew their load trading for Deron Williams with no guarantee he'd stay. If he leaves them, which is very possible this summer with no Dwight on the way, they are screwed. They're going to be looking to sign someone with some type of name. Lin isn't in the same breathe as Deron but he sells tickets. Prokorov, Jay Z and the rest of the owners aren't trying to open a new stadium with Gerald Wallace and Marshon Brooks as their best players.

Maximum anyone can offer is MLE so we can match that.
Personally I think Lin is worth to Dolan much more than the MLE.
It also makes sense from the team perspective. You will hardly find a better player for MLE. Maybe Nash but that's it. Felton is overweight and he he has never been a great player. He was a good but that's it.
I would like us to sign a backup point guard,Anthony Carter,Mike James... whoever.
We can't go to the playoffs with Baron,Bibby and Douglas. Baron is an injury waiting to happen and can't play major minutes while Bibby and Douglas absolutely suck.
Shumpert should be the starting pg now and next year unless an amare trade happens and a calderon type comes back- not putting a lot more time into shumpert at pg is taking the easy way out, and hinders the development of shumpert and the team even though its easier and maybe even more effective right now to throw I'm at sg
Jared Cunningham from oregon state is a guy that the knicks could come up w in the draft

Baron Davis is clearly injured and he's not playing good.
Douglas and Bibby suck.
So I would like us to sign someone for the remainder of the season because even if we make the playoffs we won't go far with an injured Baron/Douglas/Bibby point guard rotation.
Sign someone, for example Anthony Carter. He was playing well for us last season. He's surely a lot better than both Douglas and Bibby.
I haven't watched Mike James but he can't be any worse than those two.
