Those are my favorite kind of shows.

I tend to like the more light hearted stuff these days. Like I really enjoyed Love Hina when it first came out. Di Gi Charat (the old 3 minute mini-episodes) ruled. Chi's Sweet Home. Jungle wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu. Chobits. Azumanga Daioh. Saber Marionette J. etc.

I also enjoyed more serious anime, like Serial Experiments Lain, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Death Note, etc.

I don't watch much anime these days because 1) I don't really care for the fact that it's all CG now and a lot looks the same 2) seems like it's made for 15-year-old perverts with ADHD.

There is nothing to get. People like it. It's just a hobby just like we like watching basketball.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it. It's more about how you carry yourself. I know quite a few Americans who watch anime and love Japanese stuff, but they act pretty normal. Cosplaying is a little extreme imo, but some people do it really well.

Anime seems to me to be made for girls, or maybe it just has more a feminized method of story telling. I'm sure it just requires a certain perspective to get something out of it. So trying to force it on someone would probably be as counterproductive as playing dubstep for most stereo-typical country fans. If you give it any regard at all knocking it is just going to reinforce your image of it.

to me this is no different than talking about people like Firemen Ed who become characters to cheer for their favorite team. People who take things too far, to the point of dressing like douchebags do it because (drumroll) they are douchebags.

Same.

Sushi is the shit, but it's too expensive.

We found a place that sells wholesale to the restaurant, and we split a few pounds between us and a few other families. Fresh as hell.

Then you probably haven't look deep enough into other genre of anime.

Anime/manga is basically an evolved Disney comics. The most influential artist, Tetsuka Osamu, is a Betty Boop fan and said to be inspired by that. If you want to take a glimpse at the root of anime/manga, Tetsuka's works alone should do.

This is what that show has done to this generation.
