He looks good in that photo though. He's always had some fat to spare, but I've never really thought his physique was a problem. He's got that big Oscar Robinson booty he can push people around with. He just needs to improve his conditioning so he can do something other than stand around and wait for the ball - which is odd, because playing in Denver for so many years you wouldn't think endurance would be an issue.
The change back to normal altitude and the fact that Denvers strength coach is one of the best in the league may have some effect. People also forget, or never knew, him and Amare had surgery last offseason. I personally think he looks a little thin. I hope he plans to add a little muscle.

The dude has never been dedicated to the gym to be chisled which isnt a problem to me. Just build up the cardio so he can play both ends of the floor.

Getting big *pause* is not really good for a basketball player. It can mess with your jump shot. Often causes your elbow to go out on jumpshots which is generally considered poor form.

That's my point. After being in Denver for 8 years, air at sea level should be like breathing delicious oxygen soup. He should be like Superman, playing 48 minutes a game - unless he never took his conditioning seriously while he was in Denver, which by all accounts is the case at hand.

You see any other former Nuggets playing more minutes than Melo?

Billups, JR Smith, Nene, Kenyon Martin, etc haven't shown any sort of advantage conditioning-wise due to playing in Denver. Its hard to say that the altitude adjustment makes much of a difference, espescially when most of these guys spent their offseasons away from Denver.

or Mike Sweetney or Shawn Kemp.

Obviously any coach wants his players to come in to training camp in-shape, not to mention Melo is going to be in great shape to play in the Olympics this summer. Im more concerned of him being worn down to start the season.

Well, we never hear about conditioning issues with those guys the way we do with Melo.

And JR expends a ton of energy taking all those step-backs. He's a marvel of conditioning.

Melo looking really toned/cut. I've never bought into the fat jokes anyway, he just has a fat face, but he's always been a pretty lean guy considering. You'd think he was the Michelin Man or something w/ the Melo fat jokes we hear all the time.

Anyhow, like previously mentioned in this thread, I dont put much stock into his physique, that's not the problem, its the cardio/endurance.
