To get an idea of the market remaining for SGs-- i.e. Ronnie Brewer, etc. -- Randy Foye just agreed to a 1-year, $2.5M deal w/ Utah
Alvaro Martin: Newsday: #NewYorkKnicks have @Carlos Delfino on radar; however, Knicks can only offer him the veteran minimum (approximately $1.2 per season)

I wouldn't be against adding Ronnie Brewer, but my major issue is that he absolutely kills spacing for us on offense if he starts over JR. It was bad enough that we had Landry Fields out there with teams knowing that his shot was off and they didn't have to close out on him. But, it would probably be even worse when defenses are certain a guy like Brewer can't hit a 3 even when open.
I would stay away from Delfino as a starting SG btw
I think its pretty bad for you when you finish with the worst +/- of any player last season for the terrible Milwaukee Bucks. Just looking on his advanced stats it looks like he was the worst contributor on that team despite his numbers as a starter. I know Melo has kind of had a hard time when guarded by him so he'd be an asset to have off the bench as our backup SF. Without playing any minutes at SG, 15-20 MPG seems possible. Doubt he'll find a larger role elsewhere in the NBA if he is waiting on signing after the Olympics is over.
Another guy I'm starting to warm up to is Delonte West.
Probably would be the most erratic SG pairing in NBA history with Delonte & JR holding the job down until Shumpert returns.
delfino might be a good pickup, he can stroke the 3
though not sure how well that will sit with melo
Yeah I wouldn't mind him as the backup SF to Melo. I actually would think he'd be a good defensive addition for our 2nd unit, and thats better than a scrub like Maurice Evans who we've been rumored with. Kidd/JR/Delfino looks pretty formidable on the perimeter.

i think novak would be first off the bench to backup melo after giving him a big contract
so if we do get delfino, i tihnk woodson would use him more at sg , though i think it can work
Now THIS is a quality acquisition! A solid guy. Potential starter. Solid bench player who can come in and contribute immediately...for cheap! You don't always have to hit home runs. Sometimes the singles and doubles are just as valuable!
i know Delfino plus minus isnt good. but he provides what the knicks lack. a shooter, hustler, defender.... i think some of the things he lacks could be coached but i dont think the coaching staff is good at providing the necessary information or tools for development. It really seems like most of the knicks coaching staff let players improve their game by themselves.
I dont think Brewer is a good fit he is one dimensional. I think of the 3 Randy Foye would have been a better fit as a SG/PG. He did beast with the Clips last year.
we could of used a shooter but i like the route we are taking by addressing defense first. if anything we just need melo to hit clutch shots to help win some close games that our defense will allow us to win against quality opponents
brewer can help teach shumpert a few new tricks from the book of thibs
what do you do when amare cant play defense?...surround the other 4 positions with it
all we need amare to do is block some shots and score, hell dont bother running back

I think any of those guys help. Theyre all potential starters and really good backups. Brewer is a very solid defender. Delfino can pass and shoot. Foye can penetrate and hit big shots. Even Sonny Weems would have been a good pickup. End of the day, I just wanted a guy who could contribute. A guy that can play. Not a guy that you have to hope doesn't get in the game.
Quote:
Brewer can't shoot but he can cut to the rim. He's like Landry Fields + defense for millions of dollars less
This! Plus he's tougher and he's coming from a place where the culture was steadfast on being defensively responsible.
I think overall, I'm with Rameek I think Delfino would have helped the most but because he's a change of pace guy who we can still use once Shumpert gets back. That being said, Brewer does fit the identity the Knicks appear to be trying to create with Woodson. Besides, Delfino hasn't signed and getting him for the vet min was a lngshot anyway.Foye signd for 2.5... which is less than what we gave Kidd
Brewer is a really good pickup. He will be able to cover 2 and 3s (I prefer Shumpert covering 1's ). Come playoffs my will have the bodies to throw at lebron/wade.
