Budenholzer is just waiting for the San Antonio job. There is no way to bring him in now with the players we have. The team couldn't "sell" it to the fan base. The time to have tried a young coach like that would have been 4 years ago, before we hired D'Anphoni, when we were in "not caring about wins" mode.

If Phil Jackson doesn't have the interest in coming to New York, then we really have to try to figure something out.

My 1st pick:


Bill Self from Kansas. He's not technically a big name in NBA circles, but he would definetly be a Wow! hire as far as him leaving a top college program to coach the Knicks. franchize brought up a great point about college coaches being able to craft different gameplans to make players fit together far more-so than NBA coaches. Bill Self seems cut out for the NBA from his demeanor on the sideline, the way he commands respect from his players, & is up there with Tom Izzo as far as being able to motivate talent into being successful.

We need a guy who doesn't have any previous relationship with these players whether it be as an assistant or former Head Coach. That way we'll have a guy who will come in here and not be afraid to speak his mind and tell certain truths to the face of the players. Guys like Amare, Melo, & Smith need that type of treatment to get the most out of them.

Bill Self is an interesting choice, but I don't think he is the right coach for this group of players. He would have made a great choice 4 years ago when we were in shred salary/tank mode.

Phil Jackson is the only guy that I can think of that would get Melo and Amare to properly share the ball evenly. If Phil were willing to take the job, I would make Steve Novak the offseason priority signing, rather than Lin.

I agree he seems like the coach in waiting but hopefully it ends up like Brian Shaw situation where he does his due diligence only to get shafted lol

Also, I know it's farfetched but I've turned the corner on Jeff Van Gundy being an ideal coach. One thing I like about Jeff is that he tells it like it is. He doesn't regurgitate the nonsense guys like Legler and Barry say. He recognizes talent and isn't impressed by the flavor of he month guys. He isn't afraid to speak frankly in the media but he alo doesn't throw guys under the bus like his brother. We've seen him go to war with and for his team. I've always respected his defense of guys like TMac and Yao. There was never any question that those were his guys!

Also, how does Sam Mitchell stay without a job? Guy was a COTY in TORONTO!!
