Default Should JR Smith stick around next season?

NY Post:

Smith has a $2.5 million player option for next season he can either exercise and remain with the Knicks or decline, which would make him a free agent. The erratic-shooting 2-guard is a valuable sixth man, but he was brutal in the final three games against Miami.

Smith, who, ironically, has a tattoo behind his left ear that reads “swish,” shot just 3-for-15 in the Knicks’ 106-94 Game 5 loss last night, which followed his 5-for-18 brickfest in Game 3 and his 3-for-15 nightmare in Game 4.
In the final three games of the season, Smith threw up 48 shots. And hit 11.

Most likely he is gone.

But the team isn't going to find a better option at sg for the minimum.

It absolutely drives me nuts watching this guys shot selection, inability/unwillingness/vision impaired passer but his defense and willingness to scrap and get dirty makes me like him.

The kid seemed like he could be coached up so I wouldnt mind him coming back but I think he will explore his options and make more somewhere else.

He's arguably the dumbest player I've ever seen lace em up but you can't question his heart, effort or talent. If he comes back for the 2.5, I'd welcome him with open arms. I wouldn't break the bank for him though. I think a cheaper, very similar option in Nick Young is available this summer also.

Yes he should so that way the Knicks can get early Bird rights to him and give him a bigger offer the following year.

If they keep Woodson, then hopefully JR is gone. If they get a real coach, then maybe. JR needs a short leash and some good smacks to the head.

A real leader on the floor would be nice too.

I never liked the JR signing - the reason, like I have said many times, is that I hate low IQ black holes, regardless of their talent.
So, I hope he goes.

as frustrating as he may be to watch sometimes, he's a bargain at 2.5M. With the tight cap situation the knicks could probably use him

I would like to have him back but in different role.

Guy has basically become our 2nd scoring option.
Just give him 20 minutes off the bench and that's it,we don't need him take 15- 20 shots every game.

This this and more this! Bottom line is, the good outweighs the bad when he isn't asked to do much. When you call on him to be your 2nd option, that's when he kills your team.

3 for 15 isn't a bargain he's valuable enough to use off the bench and proper shot selection.
