Default What does Kobe value the most?

a 6th ring? Or his paycheck?

I wish he would've given the Lakers some flexibility, and signed a contract at a discount. 18 million would still be a lot of money, but it would leave some flexibility.

At least Miami's big 3 decided that it was Ok to sacrifice a little dough. After all, 15 million (excluding endorsements) is still a lot of money.

Seeing that Vanessa will eventually take him to the cleaners and that doesn't even include the child support.....add that most athletes go broke not long after retiring then I really can't blame him. History tells us that there is no amount of money that cannot be blown......Mike Tyson blew through over $300 million and was homeless and eating top ramen at one point.

Not everyone is Magic Johnson

Only Wade took a slight discount, he took 2 million less per year than what was available. Lebron and Bosh signed for the max deal the Heat could give them. People say they took less because the Cavs and Raptors could have offered them more than the Heat but they took every penny the Heat could offer

Kobe doesn't need to discount, he's made more money for the Lakers than the Lakers have paid him. It's not Kobe's job to help the team build a roster, his job is to put the ball in the hole and he's very good at it.

Contracts don't work like that.
Also, Kobe was underpaid early in his career. He was on a rookie contract as what, the 13th pick? for like 4 years? In Kobe's situation, he was vastly underpaid at that time. Just like MJ. People remember MJ making 30 mil per at the end of his career, but they forget that he was vastly underpaid early in his career.
Believe me, the Lakers would not have that lucrative TV deal without him.
Him giving back a few mil would not have any impact on what the Lakers can do. The Lakers need to put the right pieces around him.
