Re: My 2007 Mock Draft
I actually like that Hawes pick. I had not been able to figure out who would fit well with them, but he might be the best pick. I think it might be a little high for him, but considering this team is going no where fast, why not draft a potentially good big man?
Charlotte also can't keep drafting big men forever, but considering they are not good, they can't be too picky either. Wright would be the best player left with the 4th pick.
I think you have Bellini and Rush too high. I have said before that I think Horford would be a good fit with Pheonix, and for Seattle, if they are going to draft a SF, I would go with Budinger, Young, or Williams. They just have a lot more potential I think.
I like Portland taking Noah, but I don't think he would be there.
I'm not sure who they could get with such a "low" pick, but I think New Orleans need to go after a great big man. They are never going to compete in that division with Duncan, Yao, Dirk, and Gasol (not this year obviously) running things.
The rest is okay, except I don't think Collison even gets close to the lottery. I also personally would have Horford higher, and Arthur lower. Obviously you left our Jianlian, so that takes up another spot, and I think that if they leave, Glen Davis, Hansbrough, McRoberts, Mbah a Moute, Tasmin Mitchell, Corey Brewer, and Nick Young will clog things up some as well. This should be a great swingman draft, and not a bad big man draft. I think if you are looking for true guards, you will have some trouble though.
Another player that I don't think gets talked about enough for the lottery is Aaron Gray. He is going to be a solid big man, and I think some of those teams that are "close," like New Jersey, Golden State, Indiana, and even Miami will give him a long look. He should be able to step in a play over 20 minutes and give you 6-12pts, 6-10 reb., and a block each game. The biggest thing that I think he gives a team though, is just the ability to stay in the post, act big, and at least play hard and physical. I like Hibbert as well, but not as much, and I think he will take a couple years to really become a full time player in the NBA.
