The GM is starting to rub some people the wrong way
Default Re: 2012-2013 English Premier League Thread (La Liga, Serie A, etc.)

This question is open to everybody.. how good REALLY is Gareth Bale? I've seen him play a few times not enough to really be a judge. Reading about possible moves to Madrid (next summer) & Barcelona (in the future) I wanna know how good this guy is cause he could be replacing some big name players (Cristiano, Di Maria, Villa, Ozil) or future stars (dare I say Dongou or Deulofeu ) if he were to move to either club cause he surely wouldn't be playing LB anymore for either club.

I don't like the way Bale is developing. He's becoming more and more focused on goal scoring, which is exactly what a team like Tottenham needs from him but not necessarily what an elite team needs from a left midfielder. He should be trying to become the best truly wide players in the world, instead it looks like he's turning himself into another one in a long list of kind-of-selfish false wingers.

In the case of Real Madrid though: Ronaldo might leave so that would work out position wise.

At Barcelona the only position he can play is LB, so I don't see why you say he would be brought in to play a different position.

Looks like you never watch him play, he scores goals at a high rate but primarily he hugs the touchline and sends in perfect cross after perfect cross. He already is the best "true left sided wide player" in the world.

It's better that he is a threat cutting inside because it means defenders can't just guard against him sticking to the touchline.

Just because he scores alot it doesn't mean he's a "one dimensional false 9"

At Barcelona he could be a direct and pacey threat on the left, adding more variety to their attack as they are too one dimensional. Tottenham has never won a single game with Bale as a left back so it would be a bad idea to stick him there, though on barcelona it might not matter.

He's really unstoppable and even when Tottenham is down big he never gives up, but sometimes he's inconsistent if the opponent gets alot of hard fouls in early, otherwise he would be first choice on any team in the world, he's wasting away at Tottenham.

A weakness is he seems to get hurt alot, but his crossing at full speed is inch perfect, and considering no one can catch up to him at full speed he is just a beast.

A false winger not a false nine, extremely different things.

And that's how he played up until this season indeed. Right next to the sideline, while still the occasional threat of cutting in. Tons of crosses for Adebayor to mop up. This season he has changed that, probably because Tottenham doesn't have a target striker anymore. But it's bad, he needs to develop in the other direction.

No he hasn't he played that way last year, when he talked about working on adding new dimensions to his game, he was cutting in and scoring just as much. He was just injured much more last year so you probably didn't pay attention to him. He still sends in loads of crosses every single game, he is not a selfish Ronaldo type.

Bale is playing perfectly, his number one priority is to hug the touchline and send in crosses, but if defenders overplay it he cuts in and usually is able to make something happen. Basically at his best he's undefendable, apart from hacking him down, which leads to him getting injured so much.

Sometimes his touch is heavy and makes him lose possession in tight spots but he's so fast and dangerous he makes up for it.

Develop in the other direction how?

He already can beat his man whenever he wants and his crossing is already the best in the world. He is not the best at tracking back but puts in decent effort. How can he improve as a winger?

You are insane, he played 36 regular season games last season.

And he has already scored as much as last season, in only half the games. With only a single assist to go along with it.

Develop in the other direction: more crosses less shots. Easy. More focused on his wide play.

Don't look at stats and watch him play, he sends in loads of good crosses that his teammates aren't putting away, he needs to play with a Drogba-style targetman, Adebayor is perfect but doesnt play enough

"He was injured last year" - He played 95% of the games
"He scored just as much last season" - Scored 50% less per game
"He crosses just as much right now" - Only a single assist all year

So either I'm going to believe that the couple of games I saw of Bale he simply played exceptionally selfish and he usually doesn't play like that at all, and the fact that he suddenly scores twice as many goals and makes virtually no assists is a severe statistical anomaly. Ooor I'm going to believe bruinlove is simply talking out of his ass again.

You don't watch him play, therefor you have no idea how he plays. Stats are a dumb way to judge a player, according to stats John Obi Mikel is the same as Xavi.

Form your own opinion about Gareth Bale, just know that it is wrong and he's far from selfish.
