Stuart Holden made his return to the pitch today in Bolton's FA Cup victory over Sunderland after nearly two years.

news of the day: Guardiola to Bayern Munich. Huge for the Bundesliga, and obviously Bayern. Will make them even more attractive for the big stars.

I don't understand the move.. Bayern Munich is top of their table by almost 10 points and they have a legit chance of challenging for a treble.

Just because Guardiola had success doesn't mean he'll have the same success at Bayern do the the obvious reasons of a different league, different style of play, different players, etc. They are already on top and yet they want to get Guardiola just because he's a big name? Good luck with that Bayern and I hope the "Barca" system doesn't become a utter failure over there..

Heynckes will remain at his post for this season, then goes into retirement. Guardiola takes over in the off-season.
What other coach would have been better for them you suppose?

I didn't know Heynckes was retiring TBH. I thought they were going to replace him with Pep regardless and if that's the case it's not a bad move. I take back what I said lol.

BUT, I'm still a bit skeptical.

That's a pity. It would have been interesting to see Guardiola try and instill a real football system at a team like Chelsea or City and change the culture.

Now he goes to a club where his organisational expertise is of less value, because Bayern Munchen is already one of the best teams of the world in that regard. It's a very sensible match for both parties.

I pretty much agree with you, but I'm not quite sure it'll work out well. Barcelona is a pretty unique club (along with maybe Ajax in this regard), in which homegrown talent is the focus. All their youth teams play the same way, players are modelled and groomed to play just like their A team does. Furthermore, Guardiola has been part of Barcelona pretty much his whole life, he knew the club (and the young, up-and-coming players) inside out. He was nothing as a manager before Barcelona, where he was in the perfect situation. Only time will tell if he can replicate his success elsewhere. As much as I dislike the guy, I'm quite curious about the whole thing.

bayern is probably the closest team to barca, they try to dominate the opponent with passing and crosses from the wingers ( same for barca when henry/informpedro and messi played on the wings, right now not so much with alexis, tello and such ), so it shouldnt be that hard for him.. it would have been if he signed for an anti-football team like chelsea.
the only thing he will need to handle is the egos of ribery and robben and the german language

Guardiola is a proven winner and a players favorite. He won't be the only move Bayern makes this summer. With him at the helm Bayern now probably can get any player they want.

Well there were two major doubts surrounding Pep's actual value as a coach, (1) he has plenty of great players, (2) he has the total trust from a winning organisation.
Basically, quality of the roster, and culture of the club.
Now, I think Bayern has less financial strength than EPL clubs in the transfer market so I guess he wpuld have had an easier life in England as concerns the first point. But the context element is better in Bayern, he will be at the center of a solid structur.
I am very curious to see how he will do.

Default Re: 2012-2013 English Premier League Thread (La Liga, Serie A, etc.)

Can't be a shitty move if he does a great job. They have great players.

But it's a lame move. The Bundesliga, while great in its style of play, is overrated. The quality is not near the top 3 leagues. Its 4th CL spot is a joke.

And I think it's lame that Guardiola is going to join a team in Bayern's position, with a coach still in place and half of the season still to come. The lameness comes mostly from the announcement being made now. Had they contacted him in the Summer. This just reeks of annoying. I think he'll do well because I belive he's genuinely a great coach. But he could have and should have done better.

BTW, glad to see Stuart Holden playing. He's a legit talent.
