Re: 2012-2013 English Premier League Thread (La Liga, Serie A, etc.)
I've been reading a lot about the gentrification of soccer across the globe. And in reading about it I've learned a lot about the old rooting habits of particular teams. I had always known Rangers v. Celtics and such but even things like the difference between like CSKA Moscow and Spartak. The tradition remains sometimes.
Now I'm a pretty liberal, sensible person who believes in equality and the like. I have learned that I am not what would have been considered the average Chelsea fan back in the day.
But I became a fan in an odd way. Before I seriously followed soccer I enjoyed a FIFA game or two. The team I often played with was Chelsea, my favorite squad in the game. (I think 2004 is the edition). So when I started following, I began to gravitate toward Chelsea's broadcasts. In time I fell in love with the team, and I count the Champions League title among the top-3 of my happiest sports moments. Not the average path of a fan, I am purely a football fan.
Which got me wonderin:
How did you guys become supporters of your current teams?

I saw Drogba play and thought WOW HE IS FREAKING AWESOME. Then i saw Chelsea play and thought WOW EPL IS FREAKING AWESOME. So i decided to follow and tried to find a team to follow but since i was already watching Chelsea while watching EPL i got stuck on them. Then i found out they don't like Man U and since Rooney looks like such an obvious dick it just fit to hate them.

I also learned a lot of the players through FIFA.
Good man, you have a quality eye for amazing talent. Everyone who sees Drogba recognizes his genius. Too bad you missed Essien's prime when he was shitting on and destroying entire teams single-handedly PLUS scoring epic goals. I pray that next season atleast for a few games Essien will reclaim his form and reach those amazing heights once again, he plays football how it is meant to be played
Looks like Dzagoev is earning his trip to Stamford bridge this summer, everyone already knows Chelsea is his favorite club as he has repeated multiple times and Lampard his favorite player.

Well, I'm Italian so it's quite natural to grow up a football fan.
I am from Sicily and my hometown team very rarely reaches Serie A, and at the time I was young they were in a very low division, so everyone would pick a "serie A" team to be fan of, and it's mostly a choice between Juve, Milan or Inter, the winningest ones.
Instead, I was "infected" by my father, who had become a fan of Fiorentina in his younger years ('50s) when they had won the first of the two titles of their history.
So I grew up (and of course still am) a Fiorentina fan, which is a "second range" team in Italy and may sneak a Coppa Italia win every ten years or so, or reach Europa League finals or Champions League knock-out stage at best.

According to David Ornstein of the BBC, a highly respected and reliable source, Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud has made a decision,

Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Giroud. Medical and other administrative procedures will be completed after Euro 2012 #bbcfootball #afc
i like it. Podolski and now Giroud. RVP will have help/backups
