monaco isn't some shit club that rose out of obscurity. they had a few bad seasons but they've won ligue 1 many times and made the champions league final not too long ago

he can get a big paycheck at most of the top teams, the transfer fee is a road block

I know what Monaco WAS, but as of now they are a shit team with a lot of new money. They won't play CL next year, and we will see about the year after. That's a huge factor for players of this caliber. The transfer fee is a block, I agree, but it's not like Monaco is the only club which can pay it.

If he's going to leave Atletico Madrid, it's for a big name team.

Atletico are no slouches themselves, but why would he leave a team not quite considered an elite team, for another 'project'? They've only just won promotion back to Ligue 1, and it's not as simple as bringing in a couple of good players to suddenly turn them into a potential Champions League side.

I've got a feeling he's headed for Chelsea, along with Mourinho.

Chalk that one up to wrong information from the newspapers. I wasn't aware of one until I read it earlier, and it turns out to be wrong after some more digging.

abramovich is close friends with vitesse's owner so they have some kind of understanding where chelsea sends their promising young players there. it's mutually beneficial

they are not the only club that can pay it, but they may be the only club willing to pay the fee AND exorbitant wages in a top tier league

these new wealthy clubs with deep pockets have shown the ability to get top players in their primes - aguero and tevez to city, eto'o to anzhi, and so on. i do agree that no champions league football is a big factor why they might not get falcao

Any Arsenal fans here? Right now apparently I've read we're trying to decide between Loic Remy and Wilfried Bony. Remy has a 6 million release clause in his contract, while Bony has a 7 million one. So both are relatively cheap by Football standards nowadays. Which one would you pick? Both would be great, but that's not happening, and not really necessary anyway.

It's Wenger who is trying to convince the board to take Remy, but the board are leaning towards Bony. I've not watched Bony enough to pass much judgement, but Remy has been tearing the Prem up even with a team as bad as QPR.
Because it makes no sense to even bring it up. The reason they're not higher in the league certainly isn't because of their attack let alone Jozy Altidore, their defense is horrendous.

He went there because of money like most players. Simple as that. He also doesn't pay income tax in Monaco

He's gone nowhere yet, and he doesn't pay income taxes in Spain either, the club pays them for him.

So apparently I was wrong and Falcao is indeed going to Monaco. It's being reported by all Spanish media today. They also say he made Monaco include a clause in his contract by which he'd be released from his contractual obligations if Real Madrid went to sing him in the future. Said clause will be active from next winter transfer market onwards. Rather strange, if you ask me, that Monaco is going to shell out a boatload of cash (55M EUR reportedly) for a player that could walk away as early as next winter.

It really is a shame if Falcao goes to Monaco. I understand that they have a project but they are nowhere near in a position to be attracting the best football players to the club yet, let alone arguably the best striker in the world right now.

Also, super Frankie Lampard becomes Chelsea's top scorer after knocking two against Aston Villa CL football secured, now need to win the Europa league to end the season on a positive note.

I'd rather see Falcao join an absolute shit team like Monaco than him being just another in a long string of semi-annual E50 million striker signings for Chelsea or ManU.

FA Cup final kicks off in less than an hour. Great chance for City to close out the season with a trophy by beating Wigan.

As for Falcao...Monaco supposedly has a E200 million budget in the summer transfer window and are trying to bring in some quality players like Bacary Sagna.

No offense, but they have a 200M budget and Bacari Sagna is the best they can come up with (Falcao aside)? Someone's not doing his job all that well there.

Yeah, I don't really care what they do, but I'm sure they'll bring in some very good players over the summer (money talks). I've read rumors about them interested in guys like Lampard, Nasri, and Tevez, but who knows.

I don't understand how they could allow Falcao to leave after half a season without any compensation after 60 million for him. There has to be some kind of clause otherwise they basically spent that much for a few month rental.
