this is absurd. like they're trying to stir up this controversy with some movie footage, and cross it over into RL possibility for publicity. even how they word it, sounds like they're trying to confuse people into thinking its real footage. and these are evil mermaids i guess? they might as well have made this movie about medusa's

I remember a time when AP was reputable . This special is so bogus. It's all he said, she said and CGI of what the put together body WOULD have looked like in their opinion. I don't buy it man. Sure whatever it is.. is a freak of nature and weird but not a mermaid.
Remember the movie "The Fourth Kind"? It was supposedly real with archival footage etc. Yet as time went on people did serious digging and punched a ton of holes in the story. Well these guys already started on Mermaid show.
Some supposed doctors in the special have already been proven to be actors.
"There is no “NOAA Fisheries Dept”, where both the above supposedly worked. There is a NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service within the United States Department of Commerce (note that the word “Department” applies to a much larger, encompassing institution."
Then here is disclaimer at the end of the special.
"Though certain events in this film are fictional
navy sonar tests have been directly
implicated in whale beachings
“The Bloop” is a real phenomenon
there is still debate about what it may be
none of the institutions or agencies that
appear in the film are affiliated or associated with it
in any way, nor have they approved its contents
any similarities in the film to actual persons
living or dead is entirely coincidental"
