Default Analysis of Lebron's New Baseline Turn-Around Jumper!

Lebron being so huge and so intimidating, most players are frightened by his sheer size alone not so much of his will. His will they all question but his physical abilities they quake at. Very few people step up to guard him physically, artest, kobe. The last two games, lebron showcased his turnaround jumper to perfection on two of the best defenders in the league.

Why was he succesful? but wasn't in LA weeks ago?
Lebron gets up so high on his jumpshot, how do you defend it?

By being physical, and getting him out of his rhythm.

If you let him use his muscle memory like Deng and Iggy did, he will most likely hit it. But if you drape all over him, you will leave him dazed and confused..

Why? because lebron doesn't have many moves, no variety of arsenals.
And thats what defenders like Deng and Iggy fail to see.

Kobe knows about Lebron's baseline turn around and anticipating it. He contested it so well that not only did lebron air ball, he over shot it like a mile.

Why? because kobe anticipated the move. Lebron doesn't have many moves.

you might say, well if you play him hard he will drive. But one thing many fail to see or acknowledge is what IndianGuy have been saying all these years. Lebron's off the dribble drive is not as good as you think.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kewlshHOqs#t=2m18s (first game in Jan)

Kobe gave the precedent on how to check lebron. In the first game when Lebron hit a couple of shots in a row. What did kobe do? He switched on him that one time and hip checked him at the three point line and on his shooting arm, pushing him towards the middle, to pau gasol.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcMCA_sJuTo#t=2m34 (Lebron game winning attempt over Kobe)

Notice on this vid how Bryant is draped all over Lebron and then hip checked him on his shooting arm even from the three point line...

Which is reminiscent of Jan when Lebron desperately tried to get a shot off kobe and couldn't.

That's superb defense that even guys like deng and iggy won't be able to pulll off. Though they are world class defenders, they are not very intelligent.
As battier puts it, its all about knowing someone tendencies.

People have to understand, watching Lebron dribble dribble dribble for 20 seconds and let him control the pace of the offense isn't good defense.
You have to hip check him to one direction towards a second defender.

Make him uncomfortable. This is not a testament to Lebron's greatness, trust me he's a great player, but this isn't the testament. Its the testament to the fact that he has only one or two moves in his arsenal.

Pretty sure he left this site 2 or so years ago. Bladers is Hulk Hogan, definitely not the same as said individual.

You are there to make them uncomfortable and if someone has only one move and you take that away. Then he doesn't have much left.

When you make someone uncomfortable, they start getting angry and frustrated, and we know what happens when people usually play angry, they stop thinking.

Artest does this to Lebron every time, he gets all physical and frustrates him, Artest defense is miles away from what he was in his prime, yet he still have something left. Why? because he can get into your head and frustrates you.

You wonder why Lebrons headband always come off when he faces the lakers.

Notice how Kobe frustated Wade there, he got so mad after that play, they showed his face and he was fuming. You wonder why wade never got a good look at the basket.
Artest does this with Lebron all the time.

Artest's physicality with Lebron.

This are the things you never see from deng or iggy.
and you wonder why Lebron always torches them.
Because they never take him out his sweat spots.

Actually a good post.

Which I am somewhat surprised about because u usually just post hate when it comes to lebron lol

You are right. If you let lebron (and many other greats) play at their pace and their rythem you are in trouble. U cant just hope he will miss. U need to pressure him, bump him, attck the ball and make him more uncomfortable.

Its all in the foot work to defend that fadeaway.

Most defenders will move their feet and take 2 lateral steps and then jump to try to block the shot. You'll be too late on the jump if you do that.

Look at Kobe. He pivots with his right foot and swings his left foot out to get position and then jumps.

I try my best to be objective. And you are right about the fact you can't let them play at their pace and rythem or hope they miss because you raised your hand.

I saw Lebron torch deng on that baseline turnaround like 3 times in a row and all that 3 times deng never defended it well.

Its like he was oblivious that it was coming and was busy tip toeing back and forth.

Same with iggy. He's busy tip toe, and its funny that Lebron's first shot was a baseline turn around and iggy looked like he was taken by surprise.

This isn't a knock on Lebron, he has improved greatly on that move to the point he will hit it everytime if you don't defend him physically.

Yep in the bulls game Lebron wronged Deng thrice in a row and deng didn't know what hit him or how to counter. He was still there tip toeing back and forth.
Its a shame these great defenders don't use their intelligence. JVG says it all the time.

Its also not just the jump but the physicality before it. Lebron was already out of rhythm before he did the turn around. And when he turned around, kobe was so up on him he had to do anything to avoid it getting blocked, therefore over shooting it a mile above the rim.
