Re: Raptors Shopping 8th Overall Pick for Established Small Forward
I don't want either of them. Neither are good enough to get the Raps into the playoffs now. Both will be well on the downside of their career the next time the Raps are competitive. Both would do nothing but harm our draft chances, and a high draft pick- or a few of them- is (are) our only chance(s) of becoming relevant again.
Both are nice third options, but the Raptors are missing options one and two, and it's very hard to build in that order.

Yes, because a guy who looks after and creates his own shots would hinder the offensive development of our superstar core of Bargs/Calderon/Davis/Derozan...

Probably wouldn't do it for Iggy as he doesn't provide the offense needed but I think I'd do it for Gay. He may be overpaid but it's only for 3 more years and let's face it we aren't gonna get somebody established here that isnt.
Re: Raptors Shopping 8th Overall Pick for Established Small Forward
We need a scorer...If we keep Calderon, it might be good to get it to Gay or *sigh* Bargnani....But having the solid rebounder down low that can bump around will make it better...and like said before, if things don't work, we can package Gay...

It's precisely because we don't have a core that is superstar level, and because we won't have one for years, that we shouldn't be looking to add a mid-talent, mid-career, high-pay complementary piece . Our team is s***, with Gay or Igoudala it'll be slightly less s*** for a lot more money, and we'll have done nothing but decrease our chances of adding players with the potential to one day make us relevant again.
Re: Raptors Shopping 8th Overall Pick for Established Small Forward
You may not agree with me but offensively I personally don't consider Gay mid-talent. I consider Bargnani mid-talent. Rudy Gay on a team like Toronto would probably be a borderline all-star. He is currently the leading scorer on a deep Grizzlies team that has lots of other offensive options. On a team that doesn't even run their offense through him. Overpaid? Yes, that's not really debatable he certainly is. But as was said before the remaining years on his contract aren't that many and you don't get good, solid talent without overpaying them. I can guarantee he's better than anything we'd get in the draft with a 8th pick.

"We're not looking to trade Rudy Gay," Heisley said. "We're not shopping him around. Period. Do we sit around and say ‘What if we traded Rudy, who could we get?' No. Right now, Rudy is part of the future of this team."
And why would they? So they can overpay OJ Mayo?
The only way they would trade gay is if it made them better this coming season. The raptors have nothing to offer.
Iggy I could see because Philly has a young core that he doesn't really fit with any more and they'd probably be better off long-term with Turner and Young starting (or even turner and derozan).
But Iggy only has one year left plus a player option so it makes little sense to give up a young player and a draft pick for one year of Iguodala.
The only way I would consider is if we are getting back #15, but even then I wouldn't be thrilled.
Re: Raptors Shopping 8th Overall Pick for Established Small Forward
Whether we go after Rudy Gay specifically or not, my point still stands. Thread title says "established SF" and if we get lucky enough to get the chance to get an established young SF for our 8th pick who will likely amount to another decent bench guy that we give heavy minutes to (see: Derozan) that has little to no trade value and won't be on our team in 5 years.
As for Lamb, he's a good prospect I guess, but i'd still consider him a project. He'd have to get bigger, expand his offensive repetoire, and learn how to get more points in the paint and more FT's. All do-able things, but I don't exactly see the guy as a future all-star, thats just my opinion.
