Discuss the Games of the XXX Olympiad. Everything about London 2012goes here!
This London 2012 Summer Olympic Games discussion thread is for everything EXCEPT basketball. Other threads will be for basketball.
Other than Team USA basketball, which is very likely to win again, swimming and track & field will be the showcase events as usual.
Micheal Phelps doesn't look so dominating anymore as fellow American Ryan Lochte becoming #1 US swimmer, beating Phelps in many events leading to this Olympics including this week's trials where Lochte beats Phelps in 400 IM on Monday.
Usain Bolt and Jamaican sprinters will also be the ones to watch. Bolt just ran 100m in 9.79s in early June. Asafa Powell, Nesta Carter and Johan Blake will also be contenders and, with Bolt, is still the best as a relay team. USA will have Justin Gatlin and Tyson Gay to compete.

also i love when the opening ceremony happens and the particpants from each country walk around the track with their flag and their is only 1 or two of them!
its crazy to see one or two guys knowing they represent a whole country!

The logo looks like someone butt raping another person or just 2 dudes jerkin each other off or something.
I will be watching much of the olympics. Being as there is not much else on TV during the summer it will be by choice and default.
I'm pretty excited for the games, been following the trials a bit. Was kinda bummed to see that Wariner bombed out of the trials, I was a pretty big fan of his when he first came on the scene but its been the LeShawn Merritt show for a while now.
The 100m finals looked pretty good, but its definitely going to take more to catch Bolt.

I know most of you guys aren't that interested in track and field, but this years distance events are going to be sick.
10,000/5,000m: Greatest runner of all time Kenenisa Bekele is coming back from injury and looks to reassert himself at the top. Galen Rupp, an american born runner, has a legitimate shot to get a medal. This hasn't happened since the 1980s.
1500: Silas Kiplagat and Asbel Kiprop may produce the fastest time since Hicham el Guerrouj set the world record of 3:26
800: David Rudisha is an absolute stud. He seems untouchable. It will be a race against the clock as he already has the world record of 1:41.09. American Nick Symmonds qualified yesterday in impressive fashion, implying he may be ready for a medal as well.
100/200: Usain Bolt, Asafa Powell, Yohan Blake, Tyson Gay, Justin Gatlin. This is going to be absolutely nuts. There could very well be 5 guys under 9.8.
Decathlon: Ashton Eaton set a world record with 9039 points at the Olympic Trials. This dudes range is absolutely absurd. He ran a 10.21 100, long jumped 27 feet, and ran a 4:14 1500m.
For anyone interested, the US Olypmic track and field trials started last Thursday and will finish up this weekend.

If you couldn't tell, I am excited.
So, the one-and-done rule (one fault start and you are out) is still applied in the Olympics? It is very important rule since it can screws any sprinters up easily especially in the Final. I believe Bolt was a victim of that once.
