Cavs point guard Kyrie Irving's locker was next to Sessions. The two grew very close this season.

"Ramon has an old soul," he said. "He seems like he's 30, but he's only 25. He was my veteran, I'll never forget the advice he gave me starting off in the preseason and going into the regular season. He offered me a lot of advice and really helped me grow my first year."

He averaged 16 points in two exhibition games against Detroit, but shot just 34.6 from the floor, missing all seven of his 3-point shots. He has been impressive at getting to the basket and the foul line and it seems only a matter of time before the question of who starts at point is moot.

But Sessions has had a decent preseason -- he contributed eight assists on Tuesday -- and Scott said he's made a greater commitment to defense.

“The biggest jump for Sess has been on the defensive end,” Scott said. “It’s something we talked about at the end of last year that he had to improve . . . He’s been great at pushing Kyrie as well..

“The one good thing is I have two good point guards and that’s a plus. Right now it’s a toss up. I will use (next two days) to figure out where I am."

They are supposed to say that, then they traded him later on in the same season for a draft pick.

Chauncey Billups never put up great stats, but Melo's never had more success than when he was following his lead.

Just a thought.

Yes, after Kyrie was playing at almost all-star type level. The team was still in rebuilding mode and saw they had their PG of the future. They knew they weren't going to get anything out of keeping Sessions near the all star break. Any win after that was just hurting lottery chances. Instead they flipped their excess PG for a draft pick like any rebuilding team would. They didn't trade him because of poor play, they traded him to fill another need.

The Knicks, however, do need him right now. Say what you will but it was pretty well known at the beggining of the season that Sessions gave Kyrie a run for the starting spot. If he can do that for Lin at the beggining of the season and get him going good for us.

And if Lin gets injured again? Look at that, we have one of the better back up Point Guards in the league filling in for him. Not some old player who has clearly a step behind everyone else athletically.

Who did we have when Lin went down and Baron was aching? Mike Bibby. How did that work out? Kidd is more skilled then Bibby but its more of the same you know?

If we're worried about Lin getting hurt Sessions won't be the answer either, and he certainly didn't opt out to make less, so we can't afford him anyway.

Also it seemed like Melo and Amare played better offensively with Billups on the team than this year when Billups was gone.

2010-11 season Post All-Star stats:
Amare: 23.5 points, 7.3 rebounds on 49% shooting
Melo: 26.3 points , 6.7 rebounds , 3 assists on 46% shooting

2011-12 season stats:
Amare: 17.5 points, 7.8 rebounds on 48% shooting
Melo: 22.6 points , 6.3 rebounds , 3.6 assists on 43% shooting

He's still one of the best court generals in the NBA, controlling the pace of an offense, protecting the ball, getting people to the right spots and finding them

He still gets in the passing lanes and gets steals (1.7 in 28 minutes last year, which isn't far off his career average)

He still knocks down open 3's (1.6 on .354% last year)

He still rebounds well for a guard (4.1)

Those are the things he still does on the court, and all of them make him a good fit for this team.

You compare him to Bibby, all you have to do is watch them on the court and you'd see that it's a ludicrous comparison. Kidd at 38-39 still moves better than Bibby at 33-34

Also, we're working on a S&T with Dallas to keep the 3.1m mid-level, so don't go crazy about losing that just yet

Felton was so out of shape he got benched last year and Portland fans were ready to run him out of town because of how crappy he was playing. Plus he's acted like a diva in Denver and Portland, expects to be the starter (and would sulk if the bulk of minutes went to Lin), AND he wants at least 5 million a year. You're f'n crazy if you think he'd be a better fit.

Sessions is another guy who expects to be a starter and wants to get paid like one. Dallas is probably going to give him like 6m a year and the starting job because they're out of options.

Unless his name was Nash we weren't looking for a starter or wannabe starter anyway

But Felton was still better than Kidd last year.

Moot point yet again. As was Sessions.

For the record, I would have LOVED to have Billups over Jason Kidd. Hands down!

THANK YOU BANO!!!! THANK YOU!!! For all the Mike Breen, Tim Legler, Jon Barry leadership crap that's being regurgitated, this HUGE fact is being left out. The #1 role of a backup pg is to be able to take over the reigns effectively when the starter is out, whether it be substitution or injury. Bottom line is, we got a guy who produces like a vet min guy and we're giving him double that AND 2 extra years. And your justification is that we HOPE he'll teach Lin how to become a better pg and we HOPE he'll retire before his contract ends. Somehow that makes sense to everyone else but me, Bano and Percelloveknicks. I don't even care anymore. I just hope we address our SG position somehow with someone who DOESNT collect Social Security. Because if not, I don't see how we got any better this offseason.

We got a draft pick who we may never see play as a Knick. We got a guy who's only known for dunking and we signed a 39 yr old pg who had mediocre backup numbers AS A STARTER to a 3 yr deal. Considering our foes in Brooklyn may be on the verge of getting Dwight Howard and have already added enough to their team to make a playoff push, I'd say we have a lot of work to do.

We'll most likely have JR and his brother as our shooting guards.

Hey, they're young, that's all that matters.

Fixed that.

Siva, Dieng, Behannan, Kuric, Russ Smith, Blackshear, & then Chris Smith.

Its kinda surprising JR has enough pull in the organization to get his little brother a tryout shot.

You're exactly right. I was tryna be nice. I think Russ may be the best on the team. Then Dieng. Then Kuric and Siva are tied for 4th. Behannan is probably 5th and Blackshear 6th. You're right, I forgot about Blackshear and Behannan. Clearly better than Russ. Marra and Van Trease aren't far behind Smith either lmao
