Default Lakers picked to win 2013 NBA championship

http://www.latimes.com/sports/lakers...post?track=rss

Well this came as a total shock to me, as it did for whoever reads this I am sure.

Its definitely not time to push that big red emergency button called "Rebuild mode". We still have a lot of talent that can a) help us win the title and b) help us get better players through trades and whatnot.

Mitch always has a goal in mind, and he always accomplishes that goal. If the goal is to get under the cap, he can do it. If the goal is to win the championship at all costs, he can do it.

Remember this is going to be tricky to compete because we're basically trying to become the best team in the NBA, while getting under the cap before the 2014 season, when the CBA kicks in full time.

offcourse they would be picked to win the chip next year. its not a surprise.

its also not surprising to see these teams ahead of lakers or behind them:

--Miami Heat 5-2

--Oklahoma City Thunder 5-2

--Chicago Bulls 5-1

--San Antonio Spurs 7-1

--Lakers 12-1

--Dallas Mavericks 15-1

--Indiana Pacers 20-1

--Boston Celtics 20-1

--Clippers 30-1

Mitch & lakers have always mentioned that they will pay the luxury tax if the team is worth it and winning chips...so I dont buy that they are trying to get under the cap before 2014

New Tax rules kick in 2013-14 season, next year but the two year penalty cushion began this past season so to avoid being over for 2 years in a row and getting really hammered the Lakers need to get down ASAP.

That's when it was dollar for dollar. This past seasons 17 million dollar tax bill using new rules would be 61 million. So yeah in the past it was easy to say lets drop 20 million in taxes but not anymore, even teams like the Lakers won't be swallowing that pill. You can justify 20 million as a business man if it's going to make you an extra 50 million, but no business man worth his salt is going to spend 60 to make 50. Even at a dollar for dollar, all the rules that restrict player movement for tax paying teams makes it even dumber to be a tax paying team. There's no reason to do it now there's not one positive thing that comes from it.

And lets not forget the revenue sharing, that has quadrupled, Lakers could be looking at a 70 million dollar bill on revenue sharing alone. Between taxes and revenue sharing the Lakers could be close to writing a 130 million dollar check out to the NBA at the end of next season.

I read that too but it doesn't make any sense. Probably some Laker blogger with no knowledge of the NBA or the CBA and it's workings.

It was the small market owners that pushed for the higher taxes and revenue sharing. Revenue sharing itself wasn't even part of the CBA discussions, that's between the owners themselves and separate from their contract with the union.

The players association agreed to the crazy tax cliff only to keep from losing an even larger piece of the pie but it was a sticking point for months and was the reason for several of the meetings breaking up. The NBPA proposed at one time an even smaller tax than was in place at the time. I belive they wanted .50 cents on the dollar for the first 10 million over and then the usual dollar for dollar tax rate we've seen for years.

Both of these things in place hinder player movement and the ability to create a more competitive market place for their services. When the big gun teams that pay taxes can't even talk to free agents how can that be good for the members NBPA? The Lakers are doing everything they can now to shed salary, that can't be good for the players.

I never believed that Fisher rumor for a second. Never passed the common sense test. Just like the Derek's a Locker room cancer rumor that's why they traded him. Yeah the guy who's spent 15 years being the team glue guy on 3 different teams with 5 different coaches decides to suddenly go rogue and undermine the coaching staff.

His age, salary dump, Jordan Hill and create minutes for Sessions are why Fish is no longer a Laker.

No...it was more to do with the fact he was holding player only meetings to change up what their offense was. It started getting to the players heads. Notice right after he was traded, the offense improved throughout the season.

Why?? How??

I heard on the radio the other day that Jim Buss wanted Mitch to improve the roster and cut cost at the same time... How? He make it as if it's that easy.

Solid Bro

The players only meetings & the revolt against Mike Brown have been documented. Brown was afraid of pissing Fish off and Mitch was concerned.....they both were afraid to cut his time and move him to the bench, this was also stated in part. No question about it.
Sure Fish was always the glue guy, but that was under a real NBA coach not a pretender.....who has patience for that???

As for the union.....remember that Billy Hunter the Executive Director of the Players Union, wanted Fish to be removed, remember all the accusations made between the two......look it up, again this is FACT!!!

Barring any trades, those odds are idiotic. Teams that have fired their last bullet; Spurs, Celtics and........the Lakers. Teams that could make a major rise: Clippers, Grizzlies and Pacers.....all should be favored above the OLD 3 at this point. I feel the Lakers will make a deal to bring them back up.

Jimmy Buss continues to show his complete ignorance, this scares me as much as having a video editor as a head coach
Buss is so determined to do the opposite of what anyone thinks he should do, just so if it works he can puff his chest out and be labeled a genius, that is what is driving the guy. Doing what everyone says and winning a title that way is not appealing to him, he wants to make a name apart from his dad.........be afraid, very afraid. I hope Mitch can influence him enough to do the right thing.

The Heat's title is not legit in my eyes, there is no question that Stern does all he can to rig this league, he wanted Lebron to become the face of the league. Voiding the CP3 deal was to keep the Lakers from winning it this year. It clearly taints everything.......and I won't even go into the ref issues....not even "Dirty Danny" Crawford.

Getting little Stevie Nash was huge coz pound for pound he's as tough as they come in the NBA. Now to proceed a S&T for D-Ho reassures the Lakers that the FAT lady has sung!
