Exclamation Mitch - Let's get Sonny Weems to our summer league team

Raptors just waived their rights to him, he's an unrestricted FA, he can be had for cheap, and MAY be a better option at the 3 than Peace or Ebanks. Worth a look anyway. Seems like a throwback Suns type wingman for Nash.

Did they do this to make cap space and/or a roster spot for Landry Fields? This actually doesn't make a lot of sense to me. He was a decent ball player for them. He'll be a good player off the bench for a team. He'll land somewhere.

Stats shmats. Have you seen him play? His stats in limited minutes aren't that telling and we're talking about a possible addition to a lineup with four all-stars, I don't really know what you're expecting. I know it's the era of the super-team but I'm just talking about taking a look at a guy who might be an upgrade on our current situation at the 3. This isn't a high risk suggestion. I'm sorry prime Scottie Pippen isn't available to join Mr. Poopy Pants.

I don't think anyone thinks he's the next 6th man of the year. He'd be a nice addition as the 10-12th guy on the bench that you can take a risk on for the minimum though.

Not trying to rain on your parade....but there are a ton of guys who are better for the same money......and as of now we have Metta, Barnes and Ebanks at the 3........not to mention it is likely we get Grant Hill........so no scrub is going to get minutes, you saw what happened with Ebanks last year.....do you honestly think there is a chance in hell that Weems could make this team or get any minutes at all
So, my point is that lets look at 3's who could actually get on the court.....not possible 15th man guy bench warmers who nobody wants.

He's only 6'6". I'm pretty sure he primarily played SG and DeRozen was playing SF at that time. I wouldn't expect him to play SF.

If he was my own brother and I was a G.M. I wouldn't sign him.

What would make us this desperate at ANY price to get this guy????

This is like a bad comedy skit

I think my original quote was he'll find a team. I didn't state what that was, but if the Lakers signed him for some reason I wouldn't be upset with it. Honestly, I think they're going to fill out their roster with draft picks that they won't have to pay much. Sacre shouldn't be playing in the NBA and he'll probably make the roster just because they'll pay him in circus peanuts.

Ok, if that's what you stated or meant to state then ok, I have no problem with him finding his way with another team, the Lakers cannot waste guys who appear to have absolutely nothing to offer. Who knows, maybe the guy will eventually find his game in the D-League like Gerald Green, if he does light it up like that then sure we can give him a shot......until then PASS!!!!!
BTW, I in no way shape or form see it happening.

For me, it doesn't really matter who's at the very end of this teams bench. They probably aren't going to make it in the league anyhow (or at least for very long). People were high on guys like Caracter, Farmar, Yue, Crittenton, Mihm, etc in the past too. They had potential but obviously went nowhere. I think it's fine to have guys with potential at the very end of a bench. The Lakers have Goudelock & Morris so I would highly doubt they would pick up Weems, just saying I wouldn't care if they did. It would be an irrelevant move for the most part.

Lets go back in time, way back to........last season...lol, we had a suspended Metta, an injured Barnes who couldn't play and then Ebanks injured himself and could have been out.......the reality is that sh!t happens even if you are 3 deep at one spot....why put yourself in a position to fail just for indifference on who is at the end of your bench....if you are paying a player...even at a very minimum, get someone who can do SOMETHING identifiable that may help.....be it shooting, defense, rebounding......something........I don't see anything in Weems.

I don't see anything in the person who's 4th on the depth chart of any team. That's where you need to start changing up your lineup and playing people out of position.

Are you saying that no player at the bottom of the bench has any ability???
Let's take Goudelock for example, he can hit shots with great range.......and will only get better. I'm not a Morris guy but he's not too bad from the little I've seen of him in the NBA. Arenas, Nash and Dirk were once at the end of the bench to name a few.
Maybe I misunderstand what you are saying

No, that's not what I'm saying. I already mentioned Goudelock & Morris. I'm just saying typically with teams that are stacked at the top (like LA) aren't very good at the bottom. Look at who will be at the bottom this year..... it'll be someone like Sacre who won't make it in the NBA for sure. I like Morris & Goudelock and have said it before, but we all know at least one of those guys isn't going to make it in the NBA. They'll end up playing overseas or in the D-League. Sure Nash & Dirk were at the end of a bench but they were also first round picks with guaranteed contracts. Dirk was a lottery pick. You know they had to at least get a chance. Most of the guys at the end of a bench are just to fill out a roster, and teams hope their games will grow through practice. Just saying, I don't get overly exicted about 2nd rounders and guys who sit at the end of a bench. There's exceptions. I like some of the young teams who have a ton of depth top to bottom because they've been drafting high for a few years. A team like Utah is a good example. Anyone of those guys could emerge as a very good player. Of course, they haven't heavily invested in their starting 5, have been building through the draft (whether they traded for the pick or not), and aren't a contender. See the difference.
