Default Gilbert Arenas and Paul Gasol???

This idea may seem crazy, but just think of what the NBA would have to deal with if Gilbert Arenas and Paul Gasol played together?

I don't think the Wizards would trade Antawn Jaminson or Caron Butler, but if the Grizzlies accepted anybody for him the Wizards can trade Etan Thomas and Brendan Haywood for Gasol.

According to ESPN's Trade Machine, this deal works perfectly.

ESPN Trade Machine

Memphis Grizzlies

Incoming Players
Etan Thomas
Salary: $5,883,600 Years Remaining: 4
PTS: 6.4 REB: 5.9 AST: 0.3 PER: 16.32

Brendan Haywood
Salary: $4,500,000 Years Remaining: 4
PTS: 6.7 REB: 6.9 AST: 0.7 PER: 14.88

Outgoing Players: Pau Gasol

Washington Wizards

Incoming Players
Pau Gasol
Salary: $12,364,000 Years Remaining: 5
PTS: 19.3 REB: 7.0 AST: 2.5 PER: 25.64

Outgoing Players: Etan Thomas, Brendan Haywood

the Wizards would have to throw in a young player though, because Haywood and Thomas have four years left on their contract.

But that's not to take anything away from them, they are both capable of playing at a decent level in the NBA.

Just think of it as Etan Thomas > Jason Collins (although it's not saying much because even I am better than Jason Collins.) and Brendan Haywood > Eric Dampier.

that's crazy. So crazy it just might work. But Paul Gasol is more realistic right now because he wants to be traded to a playoff contender and the Grizzlies don't want to give him to a western conference team.

If this trade goes down, how does the starting 5 work. Will GAsol move to the 5 spot (or was he already the 5 in Memphis)

1 - Gil
2 - Shawn
3 - Butler
4 - Twan
5 - Pau

That could work.

Gasol can play the four and the five both effectively, and I think he's more of a threat at center because who can guard him? This will make them more of a run and gun team and it allows them to have five capable scorers out on the floor.

I'm not saying this trade can go down, I didn't get any sources and come on, do you think the Memphis Grizzlies would live with Haywood and Thomas' contract for four years???? but if it does it would mean trouble for some teams in the West and EVERY team in the East.

Sorry if I got your hopes up.

Theres no way the Grizzlies would accept this trade. They were just asking for Deng and Gordon from the Bulls for him. Why would they take Haywood and Etan's 4 year contracts and get rid of a top 25 player in the NBA? And also, Eric Dampier > Brendan Haywood.

I wouldn't mind at all including Jamison in a package to get Gasol. That might be a little more possible.

I would love to have a healthy Gasol here.

But, for the sake of team Chemistry, I wouldn't want to make any big moves this season.
