Houston's crazy asses just offered this fool 8 million a year, i don't see no way in hell how we can comfortably match that....And I definitely value Gibson more than Asik, so he's the one who'd get all my money. Sorry, Asik....its been nice knowing you.
I'm happy the Bulls didn't over pay him. That deal is ridiculous. He'll be a great defensive player but I can't picture him becoming anything good on offense. In his prime I could picture him putting up 5 PPG and 10 RPG. Not like Noah who can put up double doubles easily.
Wasn't there just a lockout for crap contract like this? How is Asik even worth that???? Is Houston going to amnesty him mid season? Ridiculous move for Houston..

They can't amnesty him. Amnesties are for players signed before the lockout.
Could we work out a sign and trade to get back something from Houston.
I believe we can, but I'm not sure on the guidelines of sign and trade deals.
We can threaten Houston and say that unless we work out a sign and trade deal then we'll just match the deal and keep him away from them. Even though that could turn around and hurt us if we match and are stuck paying him that contract. But they seem to really want him and also have been rumored to being shopping several of their guys so why not include them in a deal to ensure they get Asik.
Try to get Kevin Martin and Kyle Lowry. Kevin Martin could be the answer at Shooting Guard and Kyle Lowry would fill in nicely for DRose while he's out and be one of the best backups in the league once Derrick returns. If Teague shows he can play as Lowry's backup then when DRose comes back we would still have a nice tradable asset in Lowry.
Bulls send Asik, Watson and Brewer to the Rockets for
Martin, Lowry and Morris.
Increase/decrease as needed to make salaries match, but I think that deal helps both teams.
Gar said today that Houston made no offer yet, and the new rumor is that Thibs went out to LA to talk to Asik, and they are working on a 4 year/20mil contract.
Not sure what to believe. I'll wait until someone actually signs something.
General manager Gar Forman declined to address whether the Bulls will match Omer Asik's three-year, $24.2 million offer sheet from the Rockets, which Asik will sign when the free-agent moratorium ends July 11.
The Bulls will have three days to match the deal, which could rise slightly in value depending on what the salary cap is set at on July 10.
"I'm not going to talk about any type of negotiation or anything contractually until we see something," Forman said. "We've made it clear we value Omer and it's been our goal that Omer would stay with the Bulls."
I would like to see the Bulls keep Asik, and I think the bulls should match the offer. Howard and Hibbert may be the 2 best centers in the NBA, but what Asik does for the team doesn't show up in the stats. Why not trade Noah and let Asik develop an offensive game to go with his great defense.
Really it's only paying $5 mil for each of the first two years, with the 3rd year being $15 mil. This would give good trade value going into the last year as an expiring contract if the bulls look for a trade, but surely don't let him go for the first two years of the contract.
