The thing he said "algumas portuguÍs" is wrong everywhere. In portuguse, articles and pronouns (in this case indefined pronoun) are different acorrding to the word (if it's a masculine or a feminine noun). PortuguÍs is a masculine word, therefore only the pronoun algum (alguma* would be for a feminine word) can be used.

*not algumas like he said- that would be for the plural form like "algumas cadelas" meaning "some female dogs".
okay, that makes sense. the same for castilian and probably the same for the other romantic languages. i thought it might be more of an expression-based thing, but i guess not.

How did you pick up Latvian? I was born there and most people don't even know where it is.

thats true, only about 10% speak it as their first language, and if we didnt have to learn it in school, i wouldnt know any.
