Ive been where you are bro, but I have boosted my texting skills to the point where that's where I excel the most in dealing with girls.
Look at your first response... She asks what are you doing.. You don't even state an action. You give a dry ass response of at my house. I would be like "oh just got back home (from work/school/etc). trying to think of things to do tonight. what are you up to?"
from what I read, she is interested, which is good. she keeps asking questions about you, which is pushing the impetus on you to entertain her... push it back. if she calls you a bandwagon, i'd be like "wtf lol no. i been following this team for --- and I bleed their colors." but now shift it back to her. what team does she follow (if she truly is interested in bball). "you're just jealous my team is still playing. your team is makin vacation plans lol."
if you suck at texting, play your strengths. limit texts and use it solely to initiate plans to spend time with her in person. just ask her what she's doing tonight. invite her to watch a ball game or something.

But to the op. Dude, you have to casually make fun of her, and don't be *****, ask her questions and then have thought out responses. Show empathy for her problems but not too much.

But now texting is like second nature to me. Last month I used 11,272 texts and the month before that I used 8,264. I text a LOT...but if you're not comfortable doing it, then like Airchi said, use it sparingly and find other ways to talk to the girl. Face to face is always good if you don't know what to talk about, because you can discuss things around you. Observations, whatever's on TV, the food you're eating together, people that walk past etc. Eventually stories come up and it sparks more convo.

I never text except with girls I have newly started talking with, I might also send out text at classes but other than that I rather just call and get everything out of the way, I call for free anyway.
If it's not 2am and you suck at texting say "i'm bored, let's go do something". What the worst she says, no? And then go something active where you don't need to talk as much.

are you of the generation when AIM was the shit, not on the phone? One of my best friends is someone i met on AIM, you'd talk and then say "let's go skating" or some shit and then go meet. Or you'd aim at night and people would say "call me" and you'd wind up talking to some strange person you wanted off the phone with right away.
