Jeremy Lin took less money in his new deal.

His original deal was for $28 million. The new one is $25 million. He wanted to be leave.

You fail to point out the first was 4 years and the 2nd was 3 years

Knick fans are ridiculous. The only person you should be blaming here is Dolan, instead you take all your anger out on Lin.

Right, but it's still less money. Tyson Chandler was offered $20 million on a 1 year deal from Dallas, but took more money overall from the Knicks on a multi year deal.

Well he didn't... Is there anyone out there that thinks in the long run he is going to make more money now compared to staying with the Knicks? Seriously?

So being a part of Morey's revolving door of "assets" is a good career choice? The guy just shipped two point guards that probably are better than Lin, so how long until it's Lin that is shipped?

undrafted, cut twice, then struck a vein of pure gold over 20 something games of elite play and media hysteria, if he had failed to turn on the money-vacuum he would have been wasting a once in a lifetime opportunity.

The Knicks wanted Lin, as long as there wasn't a poison pill payment. The first offer did not have a poison pill payment. Jeremy Lin went back to the Rockets and worked a deal that included a poison pill payment.

If the Rockets wanted him so bad, then why didn't they offer the 4th year with $15 million? If they were willing to spend that in year 3, why not year 4?

Dolan is being a whiny baby. THey told Lin to go see what he was worth.

Too bad so sad if they didn't want to match.

Thats how FA works.

He was told to test free agency. He was assured the Knicks would match any offer. "Up to a billion dollars", wasn't that the quote? He then went out and got the best deal for himself and then the Knicks backed off.

And you're really blaming Lin?

Unbelievable Knicks fans, unbelievable.

He would have more money with the first deal. 28 > 24.

You are an idiot if that's truly how you think. You realize he can sign a new deal after 3 years, right?

They made the 2nd offer more attractive to Lin and less attractive to the Knicks to match.

It was a clever move. Houston outsmarted Dolan (which is apparently not very difficult).

And what if he is a bust again?

Why didn't Chandler take the $20 million for 1 year offer? Why did he take the longer deal, with more total money?

Because the difference in Chandler's deal was upwards of $40 million whereas the difference in Lin's is $3 million.

You really need me to explain this to you?

Players will usually take security of a long term deal over a shorter deal that pays more per year.

Jeremy Lin went against the grain with this. He took the shorter deal, with more money per year because he knew the Knicks did not want to go along with that. If he wanted to be in NY, he would have negotiated a contract without a poison pill.
