how many do you know?

I read 9
namely 3 from Dostoyevsky, Faust, The Old Man and the Sea, Odyssey, The Trial, The Magic Mountain, Nineteen Eighty-Four

but there are also about 5 that I know the story or but never read the original book

thoght I post it - maybe I get inspired to read another classic....

I've read 17 of them. Such a subjective list. Who decided that Hamlet is better than MacBeth, for example?

wow!

well it's obviously subjective because there is no way to make an objective list

recommend me 3 of them (no Shakespeare)

TIA

I'll take atlas shrugged over anything on that list. Then again it was new when that list came out.

I've read 38 of them, according to my count. I agree a list like that is, by nature, wildly subjective, that that one in particular looks terrible.

I've read eight of these.

What exactly is the criteria for choosing these "best" books. If you're going to do it based on surveying people, you need to survey WAY more people than that.

Atlas Shrugged really isnt that great. I liked the general idea of it and enjoyed the book but Rand spent half the book verbally *********ing and set up the weakest straw man ever.

East of Eden is my biggest snub from the list.

I really enjoyed shrugged but I enjoy the overly wordy russian style.

I've only completely read 7, mostly mythological ones...

Gilgamesh
Iliad
Odyssey
A Doll's House
Hamlet
Oedipus
Ramayana

Agree with the list being incomplete, but you can never make a perfect list. Let me tell you, 'A Doll's House' sucks dick and should be nowhere near the rest of those titles.
