All you need is a pair of needle-nose pliers and a small chisel. You're in dude.

"Indian (dot, not feather)"
I think majority of people, at least under 40, nowadays refer Indian as the Asian kind, not the tribal people.

It's kinda sad that I haven't seen a pure Native American in my life, not even when I go to the casino.

I did a rotation in dental school on an Indian reservation in western NC. In order to qualify for free dental care one only needed to be 1/16 Native American.

Is that nationwide or just for North Carolina? If nationwide, I should find out if I have some Native blood in me.

Love the ask Dr. Rufus thread. Awesome!

Rufus, I have a question for you as well. Firstly, I have always been shit-scared of the dentist. I don't know why, I'm not scared of anything else - I'm serious, I have done some crazy stuff. I hate the feel of the latex gloves in my mouth, I hate the little pick they use, and I even hate when they accidentally bang that little mirror into your teeth.

Question, I have had an impacted canine, because there was not room for it to grow in (yes, I have left it for that long) - and it has slightly pushed one of my small incisors slightly behind it. The gum area has grown increasingly sensitive, and I'm a flosser, 3 times a day brusher (even have a tooth brush at my office) and I rinse with mouth wash. I have noticed just under the gum to be a little darker... I'm thinking I'm going to need both of these teeth ripped out. I have dental coverage, so that's all good, but what do you think the cost would be on fixing something like that cosmetically? I want to be able to have a flawless smile in my wedding pics next year.

Once the braces are on have your orthodontist or dentist fabricate a custom athletic mouthguard.

Sounds like an ortho problem. Hard to give advice without seeing exactly what is going on. You certainly don't want to be removing anterior teeth to achieve a nice smile.

Mod sticky this thread!

Rufus, sorry to bother you with questions but I have to ask: Have you ever had a gay fantasy?

And, What is the craziest thing you have done to a patient?

I once had a dream that I was starring in a Broadway musical. That's kinda gay I guess. As for your 2nd question, you don't want to know.

Can I email you? You're the only dentist I like! I'll PM you my email. Heck, I wonder if my Ontario insurance would cover this if I came down to Charlotte - wouldn't that be epic.... getting patients through ISH

If that's the case, you better actually be a dentist and not some guy that wants to eat me in the basement
