It was OK, but nothing you don't hear at any bluegrass/folk night at a local bar. Liked the tone on singer but she missed a a couple notes in the two songs I heard. Mix sounded good but the two songs also left lots to be desired in musicianship. No one was particularly good.
I would be pleased sitting with my friends at a bar with a 5 dollar cover, but nothing beyond that.
It's good to get opinions from people that are not connected to the music, that was the same problem I had in my band. What do we really sound like? Friends are not very honest.
My old band - terrible recording and performance. We worked on this song a lot in the studio after this and got it sounding much smoother and in key. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JU_CJ-9Xfdc

is the standard for "western" music much lower overseas?

In terms of my band (the lowest link)?
I would assume so. We had between 100-200 people at each show. There are less foreign bands there, so I guess the standard would be much lower. We made about $300-$400 every live show, I actually think we took home $500 for the last one, so it's wasn't too bad.
Mix is always good, but it's the same slow shit. Need more harmonies. Need more diversity in song structure if some of these are going to be 4-5 minutes long. No one wants to hear the same 3 chords vs chor vs rinse repeat for that long. Need diversity of tempo. Every song is the same slow stuff even if it sounds good with the same instrumentation and similar melodies (reminds me of Christina Perri).

Cool. It's good to hear some constructive criticism. I feel that she is a talented singer, but she needs someone to step in and help out with song writing, perhaps someone that is a little more technical. Then again, I'm no expert on folk music - I grew up with 80's rock, and fell head over heals with grunge, and have been stuck there ever since
I enjoyed them. Needs more mandolin. I do agree with deuce that they need some more dynamic to the music. Kinda reminds me of Joy Kills Sorrow. I would definitely go to a show if I lived in town. Sometime chick singing/harmonies over slower folk gets to me though.
