The AR-15 used in Aurora was covered under the AWB... As was the Tec-9, AK47, etc.

As I said, re-instituting it would be a step in the right direction. And, no, he wouldn't have been able to buy the weapon that he bought in the manner that he bought it under those previous constraints.

Back when the AWB was put in effect, Colt made this model of AR15 (basically identical minus a bayonet attachment) which would have been legal under the law:

I agree that a bayonet fixture, a grenade launcher or a silencer are totally unnecessary and should be banned. Same with the 100 round magazine.

However I want people to realize that just because a gun is black and military looking and doesn't have a wood stock like a traditional hunting rifle doesn't make it any more dangerous than said hunting rifle.

gun sales are up after the aurora shooting.. what part of that is not "more guns." when i say more guns i'm not saying it is a demand. i am saying it is a response to fear based on the false premise of increased safety.

How many people die every year from cigarettes? A quick google search reveals over ONE HUNDRED times as many people die every year from smoking related illness than are shot and killed by firearms (including accidents and suicides).

cigarettes are intended for personal satisfaction. guns are purposefully designed to kill things. it is apples and oranges.

How many people die every year from drunk drivers? Google says one every 30 minutes, approximately 5 times as many as firearm victims. How many drunk drivers are repeat offenders and allowed to eventually drive again?

again, cars are transportation. alcohol is satisfaction. they shouldn't be mixed. and law enforcement try their best to stop it.

There are much bigger killers in America but you never see people campaigning to outlaw cigarettes or ban drunk drivers from ever driving again.

the entire argument you are making is nonsense. it is like saying heart disease is the biggest killer - lets outlaw hearts. it is a false analogy. cigarettes and drunk driving is a completely different kettle of fish compared to the legalization of firearms.
