Atheletically they are about even with Davis being quicker overall than Noel. I think Noel is slightly more explosive but Davis being quicker negates it.
I also think Davis is more prized because his BBAll IQ is higher while being a great athlete. Ive seen him do crazy athletic blocks, and Ive seen him do the smart block to keep it in bounds.
Noel will block a lot of shots but he will also show off and send em to the stands. He lacks natural instinct and IQ.

Noel has very average awareness for the game of Basketball. When you watch him play, he gets lost, he's able to adjust with great athletic ability. I do think his ceiling is close to Marcus Camby but he doesn't have awareness for steals like Camby Did.
I honestly see Keon Clark part 2.... Great blocks and rebound games, with athletic finishes but lacking maturity to progress next level.
Calipari does very well with mentoring immature guys. We'll see if that continues to be an issue as he starts to go up against a higher level of competition.

You gotta remember all of this is talking about how an 18 year old has looked so far. He "looks" like a Marcus Camby type player right now, nobody can really estimate how much he improves between 18 years old and 25 years old.
That is still a lot of time for him to add things to his game. I mean even Marcus Camby spent 3 years in college.
In my personal opinion, Nerlens Noel will be the most imposing defensive player in this decade. This isn't some Anthony Davis type kid on a growth spurt who has freakish length, Noel was born to be a shot blocker. He has the rare "it" factor of being a natural imposing threat around the rim. Definetly will be a multiple time All Star assuming he stays healthy.

Well that's easier to say than trying to put up a HOF level comparison.
I think Nerlens will do what people wrongly think Anthony Davis will do in the NBA. I'm talking about a dominant shot blocker. Dikembe-level.
Unlike Dikembe who's offensive development was stunted by his upbringing, Nerlens has and will continue to have all of the resources to round that part of his game out.

thats a better comparison but dikembe is 7'2 and noel is 6'10 so would noel be a PF or C

davis blocked more shots in a single season than anyone else in history on the NCAA level but he's not a dominant shot blocker? unless you're saying it won't translate to the NBA, i don't get it. noel hasn't even played a college game yet...let's just wait

Talent wise, I don't like this Noel kid much at all.
The two factors that make me want him succeed are:
-his hair. It's amazing.
-This:
Quote:
Nerlens Noel, a 6-foot-10 shot-blocking center out of Everett, Mass., has drawn comparisons to Bill Russell and Alonzo Mourning, among others.
Noel said he most likes to be compared to Russell, who won 11 NBA championships in thirteen seasons with the Celtics.
“I like the comparison to Bill Russell,” Noel explained. “He was a great legend of the game. And he won multiple championships in Boston, and that’s where I’m from. So, that comparison means a lot to me.”
