Why don't the NBA allow first names on jerseys?
Like European teams? Imagine at the back of jerseys:
Shaq
LeBron
Kobe
etc.

If they did I bet you players would want to use their twitter handles next lol.
Ngl first names and nicknames would be pretty sick to see "LeBron," "Melo," "Kobe/ Mamba", etc.

Because if most first names are usually more common than last names. Of course, there are exceptions like the Kobe's and the Lebron's but it primarily holds true.
Plus do you want to see an Ovinton J'Anthony on the back of a jersey?
And you can't put "O.J." in there since that's a nickname. If you allow nicknames then it won't take long before some dickwad names himself "g0@+"

Brazilians can legally change their name to a single one, usually when they hit it big. Like Pele the soccer legend.

Based on a Yao Ming bio, Yao asked to have "Yao Ming" but the league said only one or the other (last name or first name).
Somehow they allowed Isiah Thomas to have both?

It looked fresh regardless.
