Kobe Bryant has been playing in the Lakers organization for (it's safe to say) his entire career. Throughout all these seasons with the Lakers, Kobe has helped the franchise accumulated millions and millions of dollars in the market. Kobe, for instance, is the global marketing icon. Having Kobe on the team, tickets sales are guaranteed; also, his jersey sales had been on top of the jersey sales chart for several seasons. To top it off, Kobe has helped the franchise to win five championships. Although he has not been able to perform at his highest peak because of his age and injuries, Kobe Bryant deserves the contract he has right now because of the above-mentioned reasons. C'mon think about it, if you're smarter than Mitch, you wouldn't be at where you are right now. Therefore, to those haters/uneducated fans who're still complaining about Kobe being "overpaid," cut it out man.
Re: Educate those who argue that Kobe is overpaid.
He's only overpaid in context of the confines of the salary cap. If the NBA got rid of the stupid salary cap, then he would actually be underpaid relative to the amount of money he produces.
Re: Educate those who argue that Kobe is overpaid.
kobe could contribute 10ppg, 2reb, 2 ast, in 20 mpg and he would still be worth more than his current contract
just the money he makes them from being kobe bryant and selling merchandise/jerseys/tickets/multi billion dollar tv deals is worth the 25-30 mill a year salary as it is
infact... right now he and lebron are 2 of the most underpaid athletes in the world. if it was like boxing where you negotiate unlimited contracts. they would both be making 100+ million a year in just salary alone

You could argue he's getting overpaid, after all he's older now and he's not in his peak anymore (though still very good), but he's like Lin in the fact the amount of revenue he gathers for the Lakers is ridiculous, so in all fairness it's a decent contract, considering the revenue and play.

Re: Educate those who argue that Kobe is overpaid.
Yea he's only overpaid due to the salary cap. Because of it he's actually quite overpaid. If were talking about pure economics then he's quite underpaid like the majority of the working force.
Re: Educate those who argue that Kobe is overpaid.
People seem to still missing out the part that this is Kobe's final "big" contract. This contract is more of a rewarding contract for the accomplishments he has achieved, and not really a contract solely based on his level of play.

I was for sure this would've closed this thread down.
Re: Educate those who argue that Kobe is overpaid.
Not only is Kobe still performing at a very high level on the basketball court but he also generates far greater than his salary in revenue for the Lakers.

Also this. Well said. Look at how much money some of these sucky baseball players make and then try and argue that Kobe is "overpaid". The dude prints money for the Lakers organization ... if anything he is probably underpaid for the amount of revenue he generates for the Lakers.
