"Americas most popular athlete" HE HAS THAT TITLE
He was a hero down a Florida. I can't remember ever seeing a college athlete more respected than Tim Tebow was. He is the most polarizing figure in all of sports. Somehow without possessing the same amount of talent as the other guys, he still manages to be a winner.
He found ways to help his team win games. Just think of it as Jeremy Lin on steroids. The NFL season is shorter than the NBA, so a stretch of 10 good games in the NFL resonate longer than 10 good games in the NBA. My point is that the guy was doing great things for a good stretch of games; thus, he earned the recognition he received.

I mean he won a few games in the nfl but his record as a starter is like 9-7. It cant be cause hes a winner. lol

One win in the NFL means a lot, and Tebow had two classic wins. One vs the Jets in the regular season and the second was against the Steelers in the playoffs.
Just getting 1 dramatic win in the NFL will get the media and fans talking about you for the entire week or longer. Plus being in the biggest sport in America helps too.

People went crazy when he became the starter and won that string of 6 games in a row and also when he beat the Steelers in the playoffs. Thats more than any other young QB can say. He has more doubters than any quarterback in the NFL and he almost always proves them wrong.
Tebow is a media creation. He is a Godsend (no pun intended) for sports commentators. Cut through the fluff, and he's a below-average quarterback. But no one's gonna do that as long as they can milk the story.
He's actually a pretty amazing athlete in that, with his style of play, he should absolutely not be successful in the NFL... Ever.
When he was at Florida, I thought that he either had to change positions in the NFL or find another career path. The fact that he not only became a starting quarterback so early in his career, but had some epic wins was shocking to me (and a lot of NFL fans).
He's not a great NFL quarterback and never will be... But he is an amazing athlete.
