That was their intention.. but now they serve as legal loopholes for companies to exploit to capture a bigger piece of a particular market. You cant possibly be so blind to not see what they have evolved into.

This has been the case since FOREVER. But now Apple wins this case, it's holding us back as species?

not really.. patents started off as more general inventions and are now going more and more specific to eliminate competition further. Its not just apple, but this is a perfect example of the situation.

Go do some quick research and you'll see how it's been the case all along. Laws have evolved I'll agree to that, but patent wars existed from the beginning. Why do you think theres even patents?

The below shows US patent arsenal or how many patents a company holds, which all those screaming "Apple patents everything" need to take a look at

Your reading comprehension is shit. I'll restate the problem and it's not patents, its the failure of the us patent system to differentiate between what is non obvious and obvious which has created a system where a few big guys try to get as many patent rights to obtain money and shut out competitors.

How would you change the laws or would you even have any?

Because as some of you are making it seem, we should just get rid of them.

Obviously some of you have never worked hard on something and then have your ideas ripped off.

You said that I'd be upset if Apple had lost, but uh…. APPLE HAS LOST in the past. And can't the same be said about you if they hadn't won? I can guarantee that almost all of the posters here would be clapping and laughing in glee, without a single complaint on the patent system.

But Apple wins, now all of a sudden this is a huge deal, an affront to our advancement as a species. Apple is behind this all, those greedy bastards!!!! Even tho this has been going on since the 1700's.

Again… where were some of you when Apple was sued for violating very frivolous and vague patents or patents much more complicated?

Oh wait, again… nowhere.

Also, unlike in this thread there are some very good debates on patents in other places. Both of which provide great point of views. Just goes to show that patent laws aren't as evil and idiotic as most here are suggesting. Perfect? NO nothing is, but there's a legit reason for their existence, and the main point of these arguments has to do with innovation. Again, there's a great debate on whether or not patents halt innovation. So far the answer isn't as clear cut as some would make it seem, as studies and data show that it has actually to some degree ENCOURAGED even more innovation (in some aspects) not halted.

You completely miss the point.

You are throwing a tantrum because you think people are hating on Apple, whom you love, but this shit is not about Apple. Stop explaining everything using Apple, it makes you look like an idiot. Did you see me mentioning them? No? So why are you responding to my post bringing up Apple 30 times? I don't care about that or this specific ruling at all.

I'm saying that Philips Healthcare Inc has to deal with patents too, they create less than ideal products to because of it. The products they are creating being computers that are supposed to save your life.

It's been rumored Google will buy T-mobile in the future, start selling their own phones with an advanced Andoid system and phase out licensed earlier versions. Goggle wants to be a player in the handset market

He's not making that up it's in the wind

That's why Samsung is rumored to be going after RIM. They're waiting for Blackberry 10 to come out after the first of the year. If it's well received they may either enter into an exclusive deal with RIM or purchase the company out right. RIM has already hired a financial house to oversee future dealings.
