Default 2013 Pau Gasol - Greatest 4th player of all time?

I think so.

Based on his last 2 Playoff performances I can't say that yet.

He'll be the 3rd option just like last season. Though he definitely should have been the 2nd option, and a good argument can be made for him deserving to be the 2nd option over Dwight, but that won't happen.

Sad to see his talents wasted

But he was beasting in the olympics though. The only player that comes close is Dennis Johnson from those '84-'87 Boston teams.

Nash will be the 4th option.

Should of never said "option". Meant 4th best player on the team.

ye, hes probably going to be the 3rd option, with nash being the 4th. i expect a great season from gasol. its been mentioned time and time again, but the pick and roll between nash, pau, and dwight is going to be absolutely amazing.

I doubt Nash will be better than Gasol. He'll turn 39 and he's not in an ideal situation to maximize his individual talents. Nash will be in Mike Brown's offense with very little running and the ball will going into the post a lot. It's pretty similar to Nash in the first half of the '08-'09 season when Terry Porter wanted to make the Suns more of a half court team and Shaq the focal point. Nash's game really suffered and he's 4 years older. Plus, Kobe will have the ball in his hands a lot.

Nash will still help the team as a ball handler who can run the offense and as a much needed shooter, but I'd be shocked if he has an all-star caliber season.

Impossible.

If he get's more than 10 it will be shocking.

Nah. I'd take Maxwell in 81 over what Gasol does this year.

I'd take Gasol over Maxwell, but there are other 4th best players in consideration.

'86 Celtics with either Parish or DJ.
Early 80's Lakers with Nixon or Wilkes
'83 Sixers had 4 all-stars that year(Moses, Dr. J, Andrew Toney, Mo Cheeks) and sixth man of the year Bobby Jones who had made the all-star team the 2 years prior to that.

Christian Science Monitor - Apr 5, 1968

For example, Philadelphia lost Billy Cunningham for the season in the New York series with a broken right wrist. This is like Boston having to play without John Havlicek or St. Louis minus Joe Caldwell. Cunningham is a shooter' in all that the term implies. He played almost as many minutes during the season as the 76ers' two starting forwards, Luke Jackson and Chet Walker. Bill is an expert at driving the middle, drawing fouls, and then cashing them in at the free throw line. There is no one on the Celtics who really plays him well. Havlicek probably comes closest. But John's quickness is generally wasted against Cunningham, mostly because Bill gives no indication of when he is going to shoot.

The 76ers run what they call a C-pattern for Cunningham. It allows Billy to come across the top of the key from either side, pull up for a quick jumper whenever he feels like it, and then clears out the middle so that he can follow his own shot to the basket.

John Havlicek or Sam Jones were 4th options before.
