I'll buy this, full price. I picked up the first one for something like 4 or 5 dollars, ended up playing the hell out of it.

I played it to level 44 on Hardcore Hard with a Marksman and then died to a mob that blew itself up after I killed it . I haven't touched it since. I might have to get TL2 at some point though just for the co-op.

It doesn't have any depth to it, and the step up in difficulty is mainly cheese mechanics as you describe. Still, I had fun beating the shit out of things, and upgrading weapons. I wasn't looking for anything more than that. Co-op will add another layer to the sequel, but I'm going to buy it for the same reason I enjoyed the first one.

The first one was such a great game. I can't wait to play this one.

A couple months back, I was getting a craving for Diablo 3 but everything I read about it completely turned me off. Torchlight filled the "manic clicking" game void for me very nicely.

I made the mistake of starting with normal difficulty.

It takes almost no effort to stay alive, and the skill/gear/weapons upgrades have minimal influence. It isn't necessary to pay attention to boss mechanics, so each fight feels like the previous one.

Veteran, and Elite, this is where TL2 starts to shine. The character actually feels stronger with each skill, spell or weapon acquired/unlocked. The boss fights are more engaging, and rewarding.

Multiplayer. I don't really know. It was more enjoyable for me to play by myself.
