Everyone has all the answers once they lose.

There is a lot of valid criticism you can put on Barcelona, but it doesn't mean they aren't a top team in the world. Indeed (a good) Messi is far too important in their scheme, he's irreplaceable. Indeed their tactics have some flaws to them, as do all tactics.

Truth is though that this team is badly out of form facing one of the other best teams in the world in great form. Any other perceived gap in quality between these teams is a mirage, don't let the flavor of the day rule your opinions.

1) Xavi and Puyol have gotten old
2) thus they lack creativity in the midfield and stability on defense
3) they are too reliant on Messi's finishing abilities

these are factors that are not related to being in good or bad form. They are simply past their prime. And it's not like you can easily replace Puyol and Xavi. They, together with Iniesta, have been heart and soul of that Barca team.

I told what I wrote about the CF a friend of mine watching the PSG games. It's not just the form it's the make up of the team. They used to have quality CFs, but when they acquired Villa they made him a winger to carter to Messi's strength in the middle. The problem is that they miss options against tall, but agyle defensive teams, who can neutralize their tiki-taka. Messi is a Baggio kind of player not a Van Basten(somewhere between a 9 and a 10). He scores more goals than any other striker, but it just doesn't work against certain strategies.

Chelsea and Bayern got that figured out.

Puyol? He's very replaceable if you ask me, Barcelona simply haven't. It's poor management: they spend hundreds of millions to bring in offensive talent they don't need while for their defense they rely on failed midfielders and inadequate homebreds to fill the ranks.

Making Messi their everything up front rather than keeping him on the wing was a mistake imo, but doesn't matter if Messi stays healthy.

You didn't just say Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas and their next in line's lack creativity? Creativity isn't their problem, their offensive scheme just inherently lacks flexibility. It's their strength, it's their weakness.
