Default Three Movies You'd Recommend...

That aren't overly popular...

1) City Of God - I'm surprised how many people have never heard of it, even some vivid film lovers. About a young man living in Brazil with aspirations of being a photographer, being dragged into inevitable life of gangs and drugs. The ending of the film is about as powerful of a message as I've ever seen.

2) Once Were Warriors - A dramatical portrait of an abusive father in New Zealand. Very honest and brutal display of how a family can be torn apart...

3) Lives Of Others - A european film that won foreign movie of the year award a little over half a decade ago. It's about the government spying on people during World War II, and how those consequences affected the life of a seemingly happy couple.

Uh, definitely not set during (or remotely close to) World War II, but sure, great film anyway.

What was the time frame, I haven't seen this movie in a few years but I thought it was during the Hitler era? (In Germany)

I don't know the exact time but it was definitely later-on Cold War-era, like 1970s or later I would have to say. I'd have to re-watch to say for sure but it's definitely pre-Berlin Wall coming down East Germany.

Either way, you're right, amazing film.

The movie with the most rain, I don't know if I'd call this movie overrated or underrated to be honest. It falls somewhere inbetween, great film though. I just don't think Tom Hanks fits the quiet "gangster" type.

That was the only thing I really didn't like about the film.

Evil Dead 2 - My all time favorite horror film (I dunno if you'd consider Evil Dead popular)
The Dream Team - Some silly 80s Keaton film. It was fun to watch.
Only two I can think of at the moment

I guess you value ambitious films?
Terrific selection though, Waking Life is amazing and The Fountain is so aesthetically pleasing. Chinatown is just a classic, nothing needs to be said there.
