Even Seattle Times is legit, I won't believe it until I see the constructions and a new team moving.

An Elway Poll in May found that a majority of city and county respondents supported a new arena but more than 60 percent also said it should be privately financed and that there should be no risk that any public money would be needed to pay for it.

Support a new arena but only if there is no risk that the people who want it there have to chip in out of taxes they are gonna be paying anyway?

No wonder its so hard to get these things done.

^^

Wasn't there a tax that would be applied but for only those attended Sonics events? in that case, I think Sonics almost don't mind paying that tax.

As an OKC fan I believe in case this goes well and Seattle gets to have a new NBA franchise they should get their entire Sonics history (records, championship) officially back.

What are you trying to say? That city is fiscally responsible and they have balls. A lot of dumb cities are publically financing arenas around the US. and some are even demolished yet they are still taxed for them because the subsidy was at such a steep rate for the surrounding county.

A lot of cities are paying for arenas. And? Perhaps they didnt want to end up like Seattle complaining and making movies sobbing over losing a team a new arena would have kept?

I remember a situation like this years ago. I cant think of the place but some city wanted to try to lure an NBA team. The owner and state had come to an agreement....people pay like 3 dollars more to register their cars each year...to get a new tag. That pays the people portion of the deal and he pays the rest. Would have raised the like 50 million they needed in a matter of years. The city wanted the arena.

But the vote to raise the fee to pay for it didnt pass.

So....people want it...it will generate tens(hundreds) of millions considering all that goes on with a new arena and what springs up with it. The people who live off the crowds.

People want it. Dont wanna pay 3 bucks a year. will pay it for coffee...every day. Wont pay it for hundreds of hours of entertainment and al ocal economy boost.

Id have to say....**** em. Dont get a team. Clearly...everything else is more important. Including skittles money.

Arena didnt get built. This may have been Kansas City in the early 90s. Not sure. I just remember reading it and laughing inside.

If you cant pay a few cents a week each....dont complain about not having a team anymore.

I AGREE 100 PERCENT.

Before the Sonics moved to OKC they should have paid that $500mil to build that proposed arena to keep the RENTON SUPERSONICS IN RENTON.

Why should the public pay for private enterprise? The owners are getting all of the benefit and are taking none of the risk.

Exactly. If the people dont want to pay for it...what right do they have to it? why are people acting wronged that they dont have something they dont want to pay for?

Heres the thing....if its the owners...why cant he do whatever he wants with it and not be made out the bad guy?

Cleveland wont build the Browns an arena so he goes to Baltimore....the backlash 15+ years later is still so strong the family of the man asks Cleveland not to do a moment of silence for him because the idiot Browns fans would boo a dead man who helped build the sport while his family is watching.

Sonic fans are making trips to Oklahoma to geto n TV and be seen bitching. Making movies....complaining and complaining.

If the public shouldnt have to pay why do they get to complain about what is done with the team?

When the bill is due its his team...when its about to leave its "Save OUR sonics!"? What kinda sense does that make?

That was a BS proposal to begin with...anyone in their right mind knew that the Bennett group wasn't going to get that surburan arena.

It was gonna be OKC or bust.
