yardage is more telling IMO, many times a defense can start out in the feild goal range already, or even on their goal line...like after the Romo int on Wednesday, in that situation the D is giving up points no matter what, but they gave up no yards after that INT.
If you had your choice of ranking 1st in yardage and 15th in points allowed and turnovers forced or ranking 1st in points allowed and turnovers and 15th in yards allowed, which would it be?

i have a hypothetical for you. say we meet in person one day and i offer you:
The greatest and most historic rivalry in the NFL adds another chapter tomorrow night.
If Cutler and the offense looks great Thursday night, then watch out. I'm hoping for a close game. With Jennings out it does give the Bears a better chance. We just got to be able to neutralize Rodgers and force him into mistakes.
And I loved what Cutler had to say. Basically challenging the GB CB's to get physical with the new Bear WR's. This isn't Knox and Hester starting anymore.

obviously the ultimate goal is to not give up points but I am saying that yardage is more telling of how good the actual defense is...
Yardage is the lowest base form of measurement in the NFL...If you don't give up any yards, you don't give up any TDs

Do you think the Browns played terrible on defense on sunday vs. the Eagles because they gave up so many yards? Since yards dictate how well a defense has played in your eyes.

Yes/No?
I didn't watch the game, it wasn't televised for me...but it probably says something that they gave up so many yards...yes
turnovers aren't always the result of the D being good, they can also just be the result of Vick sucking
I always thought yards was a bad way to rank a defense.
As far as the Browns question. They only gave up 16 points. It doesnt even matter how many yards they gave up. At the end of the day its the points that win the game.
Just skimming stats I can see that Vick is top-5 in passing yards and McCoy is top-5 in rushing yards
it's quite clear that the Browns gave up many huge plays in that game...
maybe the Eagles didn't score much because Vick made dumb choices in the redzone, I don't know...but giving up lots of yards is a pretty bad sign I think

as far as wins and loses go sure...but as far as trying to judge who has the best defense, yardage is the way to go IMO, not Ws and Ls or points...that doesn't always equate to who IS the best
