Default What do you think constitutes a Big 3?

What is your criteria? Do all 3 have to be all stars? A super star and two other stars? Superstar, All Star, Star? 2 Superstars and a borderline star?

It just seems like since Miami joined together everyone has been referring to Big 3s. Is this just something we have made up to make our teams sound better? There are def some teams with legit BIG 3s, but some fans claiming big 3s seem to just be referring to the teams 3 best players

I would say 3 all stars at minimum.

For example the Lakers may have had three really good players, but I don't think it was a big 3.

You mean Kobe, Pau and Bynum?

I think its 3 stars. They don't have to be All-Stars as players get snubbed e.g. Josh Smith, but they do need to be worthy of making the teams. Like when Carmelo went to the Knicks, people said they had a Big 3, even though Chauncey wasn't playing at an All-Star level.

I think the expression "big 3" should be retired; its worn out its usefulness.

3 all-stars

Kobe, Pau, and Bynum was one to me. Even if Pau didn't make the all-star team last year he was still a great player and former all-star and all-nba player.

1st Tier
Heat- Lebron, wade, bosh (allen)
Lakers- Kobe, Dwight, Pau, Nash
OKC- Westbrook, Durant, Harden
Celtics- Rondo, Pierce, Garnett
Spurs- Duncan, Parker, Ginobli
Knicks- Melo, Amare, Chandler

These teams i think without a doubt have a big 3

2nd Tier
Clippers- CP3, Blake, (billups/odom/crawford) - Superstar, Allstar, Star
Grizzlies- Zbo, Gasol, Gay - 2 all stars and 1 star( i think Gay is an all star, but there is no room for more forwards in the west)
Bulls- Rose, Boozer, Deng/Noah - Superstar, allstar, and borderline stars
Nets- Williams, Johnson, Wallace - Superstar, allstar, and borderline star

These are teams where some people would consider them to be Big 2 plus 1 very good player.

I think they are just as good as Celtics', Spurs', and Knicks' big-3's, if not better.

if you're talking a legit big three, the clippers are definitely not included. bulls also not included.

LEGIT big 3s:
Miami
LAL
OKC
Boston
San Antonio
New York
Memphis

That's it. Nets are arguable, but they don't have one.

don't take this like i'm saying the teams that don't have big 3s aren't good teams because the clippers and nets will probably be better than a team or two on the list.

For me, I think a TRUE Big 3 has to have at least two of the three be HOF type material. While the third should be a multiple All Star kind of guy. But in reality, A GREAT BIG 3 needs to have three guys worthy of HOF status. Or at least projection wise HOF type shit. Best examples are trios like this:

Bird-McHale-Parish
Magic-Worthy-Jabbar
MJ-Pippen-Rodman
Bron-Wade-Bosh
KG-Pierce-Allen
Durant-Westbrook-Harden
Kobe-Nash-Howard
Duncan-Ginobli-Parker

And some of these trios have other HOF types or future HOF type material on the team in their primes or damn close to it as well.
