hypothetical about Patrick ewing and supporting cast
if say he had pippen and paxson instead of starks/mason, does ewing win 1-2 or 3 rings? or more?
I think its funny how if ewing had the same supporting cast as MJ, ewing EASILY wins 3-4 rings in the 1990's and probably is ranked higher than robinson/olajuwon and maybeee shaq

If thats the case then Pippen will be the leader and Ewing will be the sidekick.. Dunno if he will get rank higher as a sidekick.. Pippen was known as a sidekick but reality is he was 1b to MJ for most of his career in the bulls and sometimes the leader when Mike failed to deliver was ranked top 20 all time while Ewing as a leader/franchise player of the knicks was only ranked top 35 all time.. I think winning a championship is more important than ranking so I'll guess Ewing will be happy to be a sidekick for Pippen rather than known as a leader that never won a ring..

Re: hypothetical about Patrick ewing and supporting cast
ewing and pippen would not be a good pairing. what gets overlooked with ewing is that he had an ego that was larger than his actual skills. echoes of that unfortunate attribute are being seen today with his inability to land a coaching gig and his refusal to take what is offered. he may well have had a negative impact on dwight howard and perhaps even yao ming.
having a center with an inferior low post game and inferior passing skills and who basically became a fadeaway jumpshooter would be tough for any great all-around player like pippen to mesh with. ewing had a chance to go to pete newell's big man camp like olajuwon and shaq did-- but he refused. this was ego on his part and also the unfortunate influence of john thompson. ewing's achilles heel is that he didn't make others around him better. olajuwon did and shaq did. even jordan told ewing that he would never win a title until he learned how to pass out of a double team.
paxson was a great great shooter but he was not on the same planet defensively as starks-- so there is a disadvantage there too. and mason was a bench player during the years in question. not only that but if you look at those rosters from those two seasons it is clear that the team was unsettled and the only two consistent starters were ewing and oakley. perhaps it was an issue of injuries but it could also have been a matter of a lack of chemistry-- again this does not say great things about ewing's or oakley's games in terms of cohesion.
pippen for all his greatness was not a real leader and he would have had a hard time asserting himself over that team.

He Had a Great Defensive Squad But Never a Good Offensive Team. Too Bad Mark Jackson Did Not Stay More Years With Patrick...The Duo Seemed to Work To Perfection

It's a shame he never had a guy like Mark Price or Mitch Richmond.
