Good to see Willy getting support early in this vote. I'll align with the other deadheads and pick the fiery-haired free spirit who is the last player (not voted in yet) to lead a team post-shot clock to a title as an MVP candidate.

William Theodore Walton III

Anyone voting for Walton better not complain or they're hypocrites. Again this vote is mean to point out the silliness of voting for Walton over guys like Kidd or McHale

Difference being Pauls peak was...almost...winning MVP and then having a good post season that ended in a second round exit to a team that itself didnt win. Waltons peak is storming through the league and winning it all dropping a near quadruple double in knocking out a heavily favored much more talented team in the finals....just before starting a season during which he led a team that went 50-10 with him and 8-16 without him back to the playoffs and got MVP for it.

Different peaks get different rankings.

Nobody who watched Walton came away thinking he was anything but one of the greatest ever(Darryl Dawkins aside...but I suspect there were hurt feelings).

He did what gets guys ranked where they are. In the end...people dont really care what Rick Barry did in 1979. 75 got him where hes ranked. Walton got it done. All he could do is...do it again.

But he proved all anyone can. That he could be widely considered the best in the world and lead a not so talented team to the title. Nobody else who did anything like it isnt already in. And doing it is what got them in.

Not what they did in seasons you dont even know anything about. Hakeem isnt top 15 for 1998 or 1987. Hes there for 94 and 95. Thats how it works. Fair or not. Thats how it is.

And really...these guys saw fit to vote Shaq into the top 50 after 4 seasons:

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (player), Marv Albert (media), Al Attles (team), Red Auerbach (team), Elgin Baylor (team), Dave Bing (player), Larry Bird (team), Marty Blake (team), Fran Blinebury (media), Bill Bradley (player), Hubie Brown (team), Wilt Chamberlain (player), Mitch Chortkoff (media), Bob Cousy (player), Billy Cunningham (team), Chuck Daly (team), David DuPree (media), Wayne Embry (team), Julius Erving (player), Joe Gilmartin (media), Sam Goldaper (media), Alex Hannum (team), Lester Harrison (team), John Havlicek (player), Chick Hearn (media), Red Holzman (team), Phil Jasner (media), Earvin Johnson (player), John Kerr (player), Leonard Koppet (media), Bob Lanier (player), Frank Layden (team), Leonard Lewin (media), Jack McCallum (media), Dick McGuire (team), George Mikan (player), Bob Pettit (player), Harvey Pollack (team), Jack Ramsay (team), Willis Reed (team), Oscar Robertson (player), Bill Russell (player), Bob Ryan (media), Dolph Schayes (player), Bill Sharman (player), Gene Shue (team), Isiah Thomas (team), Wes Unseld (team), Peter Vecsey (media), Jerry West (team)

And in those 4 he had done less things of importance than Walton.

They see fit to make a player top 50 for "Hes just that damn good...." reasons I dont know why we should have a problem with Walton top 40. He was by all accounts...better than that.

I was kidding since I went along with your post since you were voting 3 Celtic players in a row (Cowens, McHale, Sam Jones)

Too early for me to think Pistol. Just too little team success to consider a guy who was never the leagues best player, had a short prime a short overall career and was a questionable teammate in terms of how his skills impacted the results of the game.
