Has it always been like this?

A .mov or an .avi file can be many different types of video.

.mov or .avi is basically a wrapper tag around actual video content. That video content might be many different types of codecs.

There's a program out there called SUPER, that has lousy website and a lousy interface, but it converts video to almost any type of other video filetype. You could probably use this to convert to something pretty standard that youtube will be happy with.

Oh okay.

Been using PowerDirector 7 for a while now ... But I think I used 8 before, then downgraded to 7 ... I'm gonna upgrade to 10 since they got 3D now.

Yeah, but once you render it ... the outcome will be the one that you set it to, right? ain't that one of the main purpose of rendering? correct me if im wrong :)
