The 1980s feature the most underrated era for guards.
You got players who are seldom mentioned now a days, who were All-NBA talents.
You got players who were All-NBA 1st teamers, player who led teams to deep playoff runs, players who averaged over 30 points, guys with near triple double seasons. This B-Team of players can probably hang with the best of this generation.

Past 10 years? There are...Nash, Allen, Manu, Rose, Tmac, Billups, Arenas, Roy, Carter, Parker, Iverson, Kidd, Ellis, Baron, Andre....Even Francis and Marbury.

The past 10 years of NBA basketball has been the combination of the swingmen/point guard golden era and here is el kissel saying that guards from the 80's have a deeper pool of talent

Is their any 2nd tier guards making All-NBA 1st teams or leading their team deep in the playoffs?
Gus Williams beat out Magic Johnson for an All-NBA 1st team spot? I don't remember B-Diddy or Marbury taking a spot from Kobe or AI on the All-NBA teams.
Fat Lever avg near a triple double of 20/9/8. My boy Francis got close with 21/7/6 but didn't get the All-NBA 2nd team with it.
World B. Free avg over 30 a game. Alvin Robertson led the league in steals 3 times, Reggie Theus, bomb ass jheri curl. Need I go on.

Mos of today's guards produce empty stats.
A. Their IQ overall is horrid
B. The rules allow them to be as successful as they are statistically
The game is geared to increase guard production. Most of the players mentioned by the OP would be getting hall of fame numbers if they played in this era, with no touch rules and lack of big men guarding the paint.

Of course not, but making over him means something. Just saying, Michael Redd never made a team over Dwyane Wade. Hell, he never made one over Gilbert Arenas.
What does pace have to do with anything? It was still a different world, way more physical, hand checking. Like andgar said, Micheal Ray Richard would have a field day in today's league.
